Setting Goals 14.1

When practicing everyday what should your goal be when playing 14.1

I play on a 10 foot Brunswick and currently I practice until I run 3 racks "42 Balls". Once I can run 3 racks every day for 7 consecutive days I will then up it to 4 racks and once I run 4 racks every day for 7 consecutive days I will raise it to 5 racks, and so on.

Is this the best way to set goals? Open for suggestions and comments. Thanks.

Not a bad approach, but .....

An improvement might be to begin your run differently. I watched Earl Strickland practice 14.1 before the 1999 National 14.1 championships. He racked all 15 balls and began with a legal opening break, which usually leaves a run that's challenging to get started. He then shot until he missed and after any miss he racked all fifteen balls and began the process again, so he honed his skills on the opening break while he practiced. Oh yeah, he won the high run prize with a 130 in the event.

In the real world, runs don't begin with the shot you choose, but instead with the one you happen to face, which, to me, makes Earl's practice method very sensible.

You'll be far readier for competition is you practice this way. Of course, if running balls is all you care about, this isn't your best chance.

If you can run 42 this way seven days in a row, that's pretty darn good.

I am starting to think about forgetting about any goal.
A person is only going to run as many balls they are good enough to run.
I might think something like, Today I will run sixty balls.
Then it doesn't happen.
what now?

Your goal of running three racks is a good goal. And if you can do it even better.
I think the important thing is playing the game and a goal will keep a person at it.

Forget about what I said up there^.

Play the game and show us the next 42 or 56.
btw, great table.

If you are running 3 plus racks on a 10' table ... Bravo!!

I would highly suggest that you keep track of your misses. Practice them until you own them. The more you own, the less misses ... the higher your runs will be.

Remember, it only takes ONE more ball than yesterday to create a new high run.

Keep Stroking ... Straight!!
