I found a posting on Youtube with the poster's comments on one of the players. A google search comes up with additional information about Alex Higgins. The final link has tales that makes Earl's antics seem a model of moderation by comparison

Frame 1. This posting begins with Alex Higgins signing up live on air to Howard Kruger's "Framework" stable. Oh, Alex, if only you had known then that the man sitting beside you was an absolute snake who would chew you up, spit you out and leave you almost bankrupt.(Kruger also faced indecent assault charges against a 6 year old girl in 2003 and was subsequently jailed for 3 years,but that's another story!) This was,in my opinion the defining moment in Alex's career which eventually wrecked him financially. Part 2 of this first frame will follow presently.

Excellent post - would have loved to see more of the Davis/Higgins match. I don't know if there are any pool players who have soared so high and sunk so low as Higgins.
