shaft damaged on airline

I had a shaft lost from denver to valley forge this past year. I had 18 cues in a hard case with all the butt's and shafts set together. When I got to the PA airport I popped open the case and counted the butts, all were there but were not in order at all. I diddent see any damage so I went on my way.
At the show I made a deal to sell a mid level cue with 2 shafts and when I went to get the shafts out of the case, !*#&@%$ there was only one. I still made the sale but at a discount. I went to the baggage dept. in denver but there was no one working and a few people waiting so I said the hell with it. I had a good show and I just wanted to get home. In the future I will persue and loss or damage. I am thinking of having the person checking in my bags counting and signing something with the ammount of cues and shafts if they will. I'm a competitive water skier. One of my friends had his ski absolutely mangled by the inspectors. There's no good reason for the abuse. Believe it or not, our skis are precisely made and precisely adjusted and we take treat them almost as gently as a cue would be treated. Anyway, his ski was in a heavily padded semi-hard bag, stuffed with towels for extra protection. It was obviously removed from the bag and badly mistreated. It was questionable whether this $1000 ski would be usable again.

Sheesh!

OK, Vag my friend, you can have it. I noticed that AZ damaged my thoughts when they rifled through my head, but it's for the children, so I won't complain. If you're a true American, you won't either. :D

Research your travel plans

They did not confiscate your stuff, you surrendered it because you did not want to go back and check it in your baggage. People who travel are not informed and or running late. Knowledge is Power.

If u want to dwell on semantics- I agree that the word confiscation does not acurately describe what occured but I did NOT surrender it.I gave it to him with my signature so that when he wears it and goes home his wife will think of me.:cool:

I no longer take my cues with me when traveling the last time i went to vegas for a tourny I shipped my cues next day Fed X with insurance in the original cue box they were sent to me originally !

Hell for that matter I try to not carry any more than I can take on if possible! sorry to hear about your shaft I hope you get satisfaction but in my experiences in the past traveling on business its tough if the airline messes up in this case it sounds like security whih opens a whole other case of worms since they are (as I understand it) not affiliated with the airline but instead Federal contractors!:(
 
I'm flying to Korea this Saturday, for the year. This thread has me so spooked about my cues. I looked into shipping them, but it costs about $300!

Actually, I just checked usps.com and they're not too bad. $60 or so (guessing 10 lbs). I'm not sure if the package would be too large or not. I'm going to be there a while, so I wouldn't need it next day or anything...

Leave them home and buy some new ones when you get settled in. After all that is where most of them are made. Then ship them home when you come back, you will always have great stories to tell about finding and buying them in some street market in Korea, and haggling over the price,
etc etc. I think it would be fun. Just my 2 cents.:)

People who travel are still free men. Stepping on a vehicle isn't an excuse for theft.

It's very simple, If you don't like the rules don't fly.. Take the Bus,Train,or drive yourself. The rules are there to keep us Safe. Look at the Big Picture.

The big picture is that the majority of people who fly are not terrorists and have no desire to hijack a plane or kill people with it. The big picture is that the majority of people that fly have to put up with all the BS because of a few fanatics that believe what some idiot has postulated regarding the afterlife or what Allah wants them to do with their lives. The big picture is that we have to pay through the nose for security every where to try to eliminate chaos and protect innocent lives. The big picture is that OUR picture is taken every time we go somewhere outside our homes. They even have pretty detailed pictures of our homes. It's only my personal view, but I feel like it is wrong to make the many pay for the possible actions of a few. It seems fairly obvious to me that we aren't really making much of a dent in criminal activity. It also seems that we may be taking the wrong path in our "war" on terrorism if our goal is to eliminate it (which I don't really think is possible).
To the OP, sorry about your cue. I hope things work out well for you, but it doesn't sound likely.

**shudder** I've seen the cues they have there, I don't want to have anything to do with them. Both of my cues were made right here in Wisconsin. Well, my predator shaft was made in Florida...
 
Thank you all very much. I will keep you posted. On my return trip, the pilot left the cockpit to go to the toilet used by the passengers. Someone could have jumped him & taken control of the plane. TSA would be more effective if they put their energy into hardened cockpits which have been standard on Israeli airlines for many years instead of tearing up my cue & confiscating toothpaste.

Yeah, don't complain about losing rights, just comply. Those who complain too much will be gone soon anyway...gone into one of the unknown prisons being built for this specific purpose. Can you say "enemy combatant?"

My father can carry his cane on a plane. What difference is there between that piece of wood/metal and a cue, if to be used as a weapon to take over a plane?

The rules are stupid and ineffective and are just a dog-n-pony show for the sheep. As one good statist excused it, "Well, they have to do something!" :(

It's just a shame. I remember flying pre 9/11 with my Jay Flowers case.
I would stow it in the overhead and during the flight, then I would get it down and clean all the junk out of the zipper pockets, clean up my shafts, Hell now that I think about it, I had a Razor Blade in my case and would trim up the end of my tips on the little flip down snack tray. Then Burnish the side of the Tip and the Shafts. It was always a great conversation starter with the other passengers. Everyone always had a Pool story to tell.:)
