I use my Snooker cue for Snooker and Pool.

8.9 mm. It’s not better or worse but just used to playing with that size for 53 years. Can spin the cueball like a Tasmanian devil.

If I had started with American Pool would be using a Pool cue. When I grab a cue at a friends house or a pool hall, I choose the smallest tip as long as the cue feels decent.

And how come 16mm wasn't a voting option???

People could actually be fitted to their shafts (per hand size "millimeters" and length of stroke "taper". I believe buying stuff and then getting used to it is not the best way. Just my .02
This is sort of a great idea IMO. Dimensions are crafted to fit as many people as possible but not really be the best for anyone. Actually measuring and cutting to the player seems like you'd end up with something much better.

His name was Harvey Martin. Would watch you play awhile then build a cue that worked for your stroke & to correct a beautiful throwing motion. 👌

couldn't agree more. don't know why people argue with this point, and more cue retailers don't take advantage of it.

…the smaller shaft requires a more accurate and deliberate stroke--more chance for stroke errors to "become manifest"
This is a common misperception. Shaft size has no effect on tip/ball accuracy. Tip curvature has a tiny effect - not enough to matter with normal tip curvatures.

Don’t worry; be happy.

For me, 13.0-13.1 mm at the tip, 13.5-13.7 mm at 6”, >4 oz., hard layered tips. Most of my ferrules are iv*ry (older shafts), but a couple are not. Some ferrules are long and some pretty short. I can’t really tell the difference. My favorite shafts were made by Schick, Szamboti, Showman, and Joss.

My only LD shaft is a 314-2. It’s OK, but it has not tempted me to switch from shafts I collected over the years.
