Shaft for carom billiards

The shaft used in carom billiards cues has a European taper. I know that they are supposed to reduce deflection, but I don't like the feel of the taper. Is there a pro taper shaft that would accomplish the same thing? I have read that the graphite core Cuetec shafts are supposed to reduce reflection. Anyone have any knowledge on this?

I dont' know about the Cuetec shafts but look up Ron Kilbys' Caromcues.com. Ron uses laminated shafts from a couple of different suppliers, including mine, with a taper he developed himself that have very small deflection values. A number of the top carom players use Rons cues and you see them in use at all the large carom tournaments.

I play 3 cushion with a carom cue and was curious if a McDermott I-1 shaft would be adequate for a carom cue???

Cuetec shaft.

Logic tells me that if ANY substance was better than wood you would find that substance in top of the line custom cues not in a inexpensive Chinese import cue.
Fiberglass, graphite, aluminum, titanium and a plethora of other "modern" materials have been around for years & are available to the top pros & you do not see any of them playing with any of them.
Think about it.
Now does that not stand to reason????

I've never heard of a European taper reducing deflection in itself. A European taper is used for stiffness. In this way a smaller tip size can be used and the shaft still be stiff enough to move the heavier billiard balls. Actually, a 10mm or smaller snooker shaft with a European taper is usually stiffer than a 13mm Pro taper shaft I have been told.
