Shaft Joint Help

Hey everyone, I have a customer that has an old butterfly splice Dufferin cue that has a shaft shaped like a pretzel. My 1st thought was just to find him a used shaft with the same joint but they all seem to be warped pretty good. This cue holds a lot of sentimental for him so Im trying to to do whatever I can to make it playable again. The problem is, it has a strange joint that Ive never seen. Is there any way to remove the joint pin for the original shaft and install it into a new one?

you could cut out the old joint in the shaft and use it to make a new shaft..

I was hoping I'd be able to do that. Do you know anything about these joint pins? Special tools or taps I'll need? Since I dont have my river of wood started I figured I'd just buy a final taper shaft blank and start from there.

The Dufferin joint pin you refer to has a 1/2" 13tpi pin. Your can simply remove this from the existing shaft by removing the joint collar and about another inch below that as there is a 5/16 pin that runs about 1 1/2 inches long from the bottom of the joint.
Give me your e-mail and I'll send you a pic which will make you go " aha".

I have all kinds of unfinished shafts from Dufferin with that joint in them. Most are only 28" long.

This one is 28" too. Are they straight? How close are they to final taper? Send me a PM for price please.

Richard

These are generally in an unfinished state. The joint is close to final size but the shaft will need a cut or two. I did answer you privately.

My goodness Mase, you've got some serious inventory.

When I went to the Dufferin auction (when they went out of business) I couldn't keep my mouth shut. Therefore I ended up buying a whole bunch of stuff. I have found a use for most of it.
