I notice a lot of players that are over 5,11 like myself still use standard length pool cues and are always holding the very end of their cues on most shots. I feel this is due to the lack of available cues/longer shafts from your common retailer. What is best option? Purchase a longer shaft that is custom built, the balance right cue extender, or an entirely new cue that has a longer butt as well?

I've done two of your choices. Have a 10" mid-cue extension, which isn't the Balance Rite because of the joint (Schuler). That much length took some getting used to, but I'm fine with it now. Later on, I picked up a Jackson on Ebay that was butt only, and had the new shaft made 30". This also works well for me, with a little less adjustment time.
Unlikely I'd ever go back to a shorter length, with these choices available. But also, I play entirely on bigger tables.
Of course cost and what brand/joint of cue you are hoping to lengthen are factors also. Happy hunting!

I’m 6-3 and have bought 30” predator shafts for the past 15 years on a standard 29” butt. A noticeable difference.
5 years ago I got a 30” butt to go along with the shafts, for 60” total. Another noticeable difference, but not as severe as the first.
I have tried longer combinations, but for me, 60” is perfect, and it looks very aesthetically pleasing.

I am 6' 3" tall and Pat Diviney makes me 61" cues. The butt's are 31 inches and the shafts are 30" and I prefer them over a shorter cue. He also made me and 8" extension that screws into the butt of the 2 players he made me.
I am thinking about having him make me a 4" extension that will attach to the butt of the cue and seeing how I play with the added length.

I'm 5'11"... I built my cue butt at 30"... The shaft at 30" and a rear extension that is 3-3/4". It screws right into the butt end.... If ever in a pinch, the extension can be unscrewed.... I can't shoot with a shorter cue now... It feels weird.
I was having the same issues as op as I am 6'3, so I decided to get a schmelke cue made. I went with a 30" butt and a 31" shaft. The cue is very well balanced and plays very well, the quality far exceeded my expectations as the price was so low I wasn't expecting too much. Would highly recommend them to anyone. Also I did a flat laminate shaft and I was worried about the deflection as it's pretty long but it really wasn't an issue.
I'm 6'2" and used a regular Meucci for years. In late October I got a 30" new Meucci butt from Budget Billards for an extra $ 50 and two new 30" shafts.
It's a lot more comfortable to play now.

The preference for really long cues puzzles me; I'm a very tell fellow yet find a fifty-five inch cue eminently more suited to my action. Fifty-seven inches is considered standard over here in England but I struggle at that length, it just feels uncomfortable and rather unwieldy. That said, I do like to hold the cue right at the end with my little finger hanging over the bumper, something of a personal foible I guess but whatever works, right?

@Rubik's: How tall are you and on what table are you playing? I couldn't manage on a 9ft table with a 55" cue. My 58 is short on that. On a small table, a 58 is good enough for me but with a 55 I would have to adjust my stroke and stance or something. Wouldn't feel right, I suppose.

I'm 1.94m (so not exactly gigantic in truth) but a shorter stick just seems to suit my action and feel comfortable. Nowadays I almost exclusively play on English pub pool tables which are seven feet by four feet, but still favour a fifty-five inch cue on the rare occasions I'm treated to a session of snooker.

I have noticed that many tall people, over 6'1" or so who play with standard 59" cues often have their rear arm on a noticeable forward angle at cue ball address rather than their hand hanging directly below their elbow which to me is fundamentally wrong.

I’m 6’3” and play with standard cues. Longer shafts create more deflection I do care who made them and how their made. I think it depends more on arm length than height. I have short arms for my heighth.
As it was already mentioned it is not only the height but the sum of particular qualities of a certain person. For example when it comes to me I'm 198sm (6'5") tall, 205sm wing span, right handed with left eye dominated. It is not so comfortable to adjust my stance for a standard cue. I play only on standard 9-ft tables. When I started to learn the game being a student I didn't have my own cue and started to play with a basic house cue. One year after I got my first 60" pj Prather cue from my teacher. Since then I feel awkward trying to play a standard length cue especially when it comes to make a long draw shot for example or other shots when you need some power and have to move the CB a lot. Too many things to adjust for certain shots it's much easier to play with extra length cue for me and I'll play with my new 62,6" player and you won't watch me using a bridge.
I've seen fairly tall pros playing successfully with standard length cue. Ruslan Chinahov is a very good example.
