Shaft length

I have had a chance to try standard, 30" and 31" shafts and besides the extra reach I did not notice any difference. I'm wondering if I'm just not sensitive enough to notice a change in balance that I've heard some people mention. Are there reasons to not get a 31" shaft if you don't mind paying the extra cost?

Edit: I just realized I was in the Ask the Instructor forum when I posted. Meant to post it in the main forum. Anyone who can feel free to move this thread if needed.

PS. Some players find their accuracy increases using shorter than average, not longer than average, cues. Something to think about/experiment with.

It will only alter the balance point ever so slightly because you are adding only a very small amount of weight and less than 2% to the length (with a 30" shaft) . You'll likely adjust for that be moving your grip hand slightly forward without even thinking about it.

The only disadvantages I can think of with a longer shaft is if you have obstacles around the table, or it may not fit in your cue case...30" is usually not a problem.
