Shaft length

Why are cue makers charging over $60 for that one extra inch? Crazy. I would like to get a revo 11.8 PRO Taper at 30inch but I'm sure I would get charged that extra $80 for that one inch and why are they using conical taper anyways..this is pool not snooker.

One of the things that fails to be adequately considered is the factor of time. How much is the cue maker’s time worth?

How much would you pay a master carpenter for his time? I can’t speak about CF but wood shafts requires measuring,
shaping and finishing. If you order a extra large 20” pizza, you expect to pay more than for a 16” or 18”. A 22” barrel rifle typically costs more than a 20” version of the same gun. And the labor involved is about the same to build either weapon.

General carpentry tasks typically costs $70 - $125/hour whereas cabinetry and finish work costs $70 to $200/hour.

So a cue shaft does make itself and if it takes a little longer to build a 30” shaft, put a time estimate to it and multiply that against the finish carpentry rate ……use $125/hour (range of $70-$200/hr)……plus materials…..$60 seems cheap to me.

Why do you think custom cues with elaborate designs cost so much? Time is money and inlays do require a lot of time.

I doubt that an extra inch will take more time to make, just more material and this certainly should be paid for.

You can order blanks and get a lathe and buy tools and equipment and sandpaper and make your own.

I think it's pretty straight forward. You want the extra length, it's not free.

curious
this thread made me look up the difference in price between a 29 inch 11.8mm revo and a 30 inch if they made one
i could not find an answer
also seems revo shafts are out of stock in most places including at predator
anyone know why there is no supply?

simple: demand. they can only make 'em so fast. worldwide demand is huge. same thing with mezz stuff. these aren't ford/gm with huge assembly lines.

in my post above i omitted "in price" regarding the difference between a 29 inch and 30 inch
i corrected my post so some (insert adjective) doesnt reply the difference is 1 inch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AFAIK the 11.8 is only offered in a hybrid-conical taper. They only make the 12.4/12.9 in pro taper.

All Rhino pool shafts are 30". You'd have to buy a Rhino carom 28" shaft to get less than 30".

i was referring to supply issues only. MezzUSA told me they can't keep up, lotsa stuff on BO. Cues that have to be shipped around the world makes the shortages even worse.

I'm sure that all of their tooling, machines, etc are set up to make 29" shafts, making a custom length whether it be shorter or longer is where the extra cost is. At last count my local cue guy had 27 lathes I believe, all set up to perform a different task at building cues.
