Every once in a while, when I recondition a shaft or do a retaper, the grain will raise in a day or so. When I take the shaft off the lathe, it feels great. I notice its more common on some of the cheaper cues, but what can i do to stop it. I even tried sand sealer, and it didnt make a big difference.
