Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum. I was wondering if I could get some advice on a problem I have. I have 2 cues. 1 Meucci sneaky pete and 1 other Meucci cue. I have always shot better with the sneaky pete and didn't know why. A cuemaker pointed out that the shaft is about 1 inch too short on the second one mentioned. He said the shaft should be the same length as the butt. I was considering getting him to make another shaft for this cue which would cost about $125.00. He is well known and does very good work. My question is, will this make a difference or will it simply just give me more reach. I may be better off just getting a second shaft for my sneaky pete. Any suggestions?
Are both cues the standard Meucci joint or are they different pins? If they are the same, put the longer shaft that you use on the sneaky on the other cue, play with it some, see if you like it better. It may be just the butt of the 2nd cue, it may be the shorter shaft.
If you like the way it plays better with the sneaky shaft, or it seems to make a difference, then the extra shaft at $125.00 will make a difference. BUT, you should be clear about whether the cuemaker is going to put a Meucci taper on the shaft, same diameter, and a soft ferrule like the kind usually put on Meucci cues. Matching tapers and ferrules should be close enough to the shafts you have that you should be happy with the result.
Even if the pins are not the same, and you cannot confirm the difference, your cuemaker is correct about the length, and making you a matching shaft with appropriate length with any matching ringwork with already mentioned taper and ferrule sure makes sense to me. Even if you still prefer the sneaky (real good chance of this, which might make you feel you wasted $125...how is your budget?), you now have a 2nd meucci with a shaft of appropriate length.
To be honest, even if you ordered another shaft from Meucci, the cue might still play differently than the sneaky. No two shafts play exactly the same. A cuemaker can make 4 shafts from the same tree, put the same taper, diameter, etc on them, and they might all 4 have slightly different properties, and play slightly different. I would prefer the custom cue maker make you a matching shaft, but you can order one from Meucci like another poster mentioned.
