ok, im trying to do my own work with the homemade drill lathe. i want ot sand and seal the shaft. what grit sandpaper (start to finish) and what sealer works best? also, do i do the sanding and sealant application on a high speed?
i would think so, but just checking. thank you, joey

I would use 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1500, 2000 grit wet/dry paper by 3M and Shaft Sealer and Cleaner from Chris Hightower. I use 400 a couple passes to get the top gunk off, then apply the Shaft Cleaner with a papertowel. Then go back over with 400-800 and wiping the dust with papertowel in between each. Once I feel happy with the cleanliness, I use a papertowel to wipe the dust off again, then apply the sealer! Let Sealer dry a little (a minute or so). I then go back with 600-1000 except for the bottom (joint end) x# of inches to remove the sealer off the top layer of shaft. I then apply the cue wax and burnish with a paper towel. Once that feels good to me, I use 1500-2000 lightly over the waxed area to get the smoothest feel. Last but not least, clean the ferrule and shape the tip.

This is my method, but there are many others, I'm sure!
