shaft size

a thinner shaft might give you more english. but it has just as much to do with the quality of the wood and the taper, if not more. if everything else were the same, yes, a shaft's diameter makes a difference. also, the curve on the tip.

my tip is 12 mm and the curve of my tip is somewhat flat, not too concaving to be particular. i prefer a thinner shaft.
i find that if i use other player's sticks with a circular tip, my shots are off.
what do you guys prefer?

Yeah I prefer around a 12.5mm. 13 doesn't feel right through my short pudgy fingers when making a bridge. I have a Moori M tip that seems pretty hard to me, but then I have not played a hard Moori tip.

There was a good shortstop player in my home town that, like UWPoolGod, had short stubby fingers yet played with a 14mm shaft Joss West. He could barely get his fingers around the shaft but, it worked for him. Point being, try all sizes and find out what fits your game best. I, again like UWPoolGod, play with a 12.5mm shaft but I play golf on the snooker table with an 11.5mm.

14mm? is this a typo or you really meant 14mm? the tip on my cue is 12.2 but the stroking area is in the 14mm area (it's slightly snooker taper you see)
