Shaft swap.....try it!

As most of you know I don't really start many new threads, but last night I tried an experiment while playing. My playing cue is a Schon stl17, and my breaker is a Sherbine sneaky with the same 5/16-14 thread but it has a wood/wood joint. So I switched shafts to see what would happen because I don't like my spare "fake" extra shaft for my player, and I don't want to get caught without an extra shaft I like at a tourney etc.....

For the sake of argument, the Schon has a SWEET old school steel joint hit and a little "ping" that I love.

The Sherbine hits "hard" for my taste, nothing wrong with the cue, just not my style of player.

so,
> Sherbine shaft on Schon...actually played good, and will be used as a spare if needed. Maybe 90% the hit of the playing shaft.

> Schon on Sherbine....hated it, hit just like Sherbine/Sherbine.

whats to be learned here? I don't know, but maybe having your playing and breaking cue with the same joint thread is a good idea! :D

what do you think?

Everything in my case has the same joint threads for this reason. I have a Joss as a backup to my schon and my xbreaker. I have a predator shaft, and extra joss shaft with a phenolic tip for breaking and jumping. I have a custom made extension handle that also serves as a jump butt for the joss shaft. So I basically have backup shafts for all these cues, and they all can be played on the other butts except the schon shaft. This was done on purpose. I won't buy a new cue that doesn't have a 5/16-14 piloted joint, too much money invested in other stuff with that joint.

It's nice to know if something happens to any of my shafts, I have a backup in my case.

exactly my point! I plan on playing more events this winter, and I'm in the process of sorting out my playing/breaking cues. I got stuck a few years back when my tip flew off at a 14.1 tourney and I had nothing to back me up but my J/B cuetec that made a nasty clacking sound on EVERY shot.......quit laughing...I ran 73 that day with that cue! :D

do you all notice big playability differences between same shaft on different butts?...
