Shaftmaster Lathe

Has anyone out there used the Shaftmaster Portable Lathe? I just came across it on billiard warehouse and thought it would be a good alternative to an expensive full size lathe. They say it is under 10 pounds and smaller than a cue case. I just want to be able to do some of my own repair work as well as for my friends. I live kinda in the middle of nowhere and its an hour drive to the nearest cuesmith. I am just looking for someone to give me some insight before I drop 900 bucks on something that doesn't do what I want it to. The advertisement says it does but you know how that goes. Be Very Very Careful!

The shaftmaster lathes are just BARELY usable and should probably be avoided. You can get a pretty nice "used" metal lathe for not much more (if any) that will run circles around that flimsy POS. no offense to Jude but that thing IMO is borderline criminal. It has the rigidity of a well cooked spaghetti noodle and the tolerances are NOT tight. if you've seen it run, you would understand what I'm saying. Yes, technically, you could put on tips and clean up shafts, but I wouldn't try to do most of what they say it will do. re-tapering shafts (dremel) cutting threads, and many of the other "selling points" are just that. I would definately try it on your OWN shafts first LOL. Seriously though, for 900 bones there are MUCH better alternatives. IMO

I currently have a cue companion from unique products. I do my own tip replacement and shaft work with it and it works very well for my purposes.
