A lot of people say that when you put a 314 on any butt, the hit/performance would be the same as a whole Predator cue.

Now what if you put say a Tim Scruggs shaft on a Joss butt, would the cue now hit the same way as a whole TS cue ?

for the 314 shaft ...Performance meaning everything from the feel of the "hit" to the deflection

but Enough about the 314, i just used this as an example and not really interested with the 314 as I dont like them anyways

lets talk about the shaft or specifically a TS shaft or a Bob Frey sneaky pete as these cues are recommended when someone ask for recommendation for a sneaky oete cue

What will be the difference between a

1. TS Sneaky pete. no rings wood to wood joint
2. A TS sneaky pete shaft with a dufferin butt, no rings wood to wood joint

A few years ago a friend of mine had a Nova cue with 4 shafts. He wanted me to build him a but to fit the shafts that he had. There was no comparison between the way the two cues hit. I was amazed at how much differance the but makes when using the same shaft. needless to say the Nova butt was sold with one shaft.

Interesting you say that. One particular cuemaker I know of says that (for his cues at least) the way a cue plays/hits is 50% shaft and 50% butt, no more and no less.

As far as I'm concerned, the most important part of any cue is the tip. 2nd to the tip is the shaft taper, then ferrule. Other than weight, the butt has very little to do with what happens to the cue-ball. The cue-ball has long gone before the properties of the butt take affect. However, the butt is very important to making shots because of how it affects the shooter himself. If he doesn't like the wrap, or the butt size or the vibrations he feels and so on then this will affect his stroke, follow thru and so forth which will affect what happens to the cue-ball.

I feel that using the same shaft on 30 different cues the cu-ball will respond almost equally as long as a machine is doing the shooting. Put a person into the equation and then you may have very different outcomes.
