Shane's break on 10 ball.

Shane has a beautiful break on the 10 ball where he consistantly make the cueball jump backwards. Does anyone know how he does it?

I tried to figure it out on my own with some experiments, but my cueball tends to fly off the table, usually to the right. :p

center ball maybe a tip low (expeirment with your own stroke) and follow through. Make sure you hit the 1 ball full.

May sound funny, but it's hit like an above center draw stroke, and try to keep the tip ON the cueball as long as you can.

I know, I know....above center draw are you drunk from last nite....no! :D
how do I KEEP the tip on the cueball???....

I had to go through it when the vodoo zen master was teaching me to break :) It's one of those lessons where I can explain ALL day, but when you feel what I mean....then you say..."dude!...I get it"....

have fun,

Gerry

Shane has a way of bringing his body up and forward on his delivery. It gives him good results. Just realize that he's found a good combination of motions for the cue stick he is using, meaning, you could try to duplicate his style and not get the same results because your beak cue has a different dynamic.

what he's doing is hitting the head ball full on at a very high speed. you obviously arent hitting it full on because the cue ball is glancing off the head ball and therefore flying off the table. (i am an expert in this phenomenon because i do it on 50% of my breaks) we can all hit the head ball dead centre no problem but it's doing it at maximum power that's the difficult part. you need to hit the cue ball extremely hard and dead centre at the head ball and it will bounce directly back. then u need some top spin on it to spin the ball forward again to the centre of the table.

the height that the cue ball jumps though is also determined by the angle of the cue as it strikes the ball. the more angle then the more the cue ball will go up in the air. but dont worry about this too much. your main concern is whats in my previous paragraph.

hope this helps

I have watched him break for hours and I can't figure it out exactly. He stands up when he breaks more than most, he hits the balls hard but not at maximum speed. He doesn't try to crush the balls, just varies the speed till he gets the results he wants. He never breaks from the rail.

Like most top pro's he is way past just trying to squat the rock, he wants position on the 1 ball. When it is on it is real fun to watch. Watch the first Action Challenge, he makes a ball in the side and the 1 ball goes to the corner consistently. It is a big weapon.

One of these days we are going to talk him into making a how to video, I think he may want to hold on to the recipe for a little while longer though. :D
