If you have a butterfly splice cue, post it here!!
I just picked up my first Starkey. The end of the middle splice is both the actual balance point and the visual balance point on this cue. I was unsure if I'd like the contrasting point woods, but I am appreciating it more now that I have it in person. The asymmetry makes it distinct, but still balanced. It's a no frills cue. I'm sure the diagonal splicing contributes to the stiffness. It's kind of a split personality cue. One side is loud BEM, the other is a muted yellow heart or Osage possibly. The shafts are very different as well. One is ferrule-less with a larger tip I'll be using for 1P and 14.1, and it has a nice light tone. But the other is a flat laminate shaft with antler ferrule and a smaller diameter tip. This is a perfect 9 ball shaft. The spine taper is thinner on the laminate than the standard shaft, but the wood is more dense so it doesn't seem to adversely affect stiffness.
This is the only butterfly in my collection, rounding out the squad. I also have a full splice big pin sneaky, a traditional A joint Adam box cue with steel joint, and a solid butt section cue. This butterfly covers the last type of construction left. And there's no metal in the cue! Love it.
