Sherline CNC Question

I'm a very, very long way away from ever being ready to take on any CNC work in my adventure through machining pool cues, but I'm hoping for a little foresight.

We have Sherline CNC at my work that my boss is consistently mentioning "donating" to other groups/businesses, and I'm wondering if it could be retrofitted to work on cues.

Again, I'm a long ways away from even considering setting it up, but I know my boss would be more inclined to let it take up space and keep it if he knew it could be used for cue building later on.

So any input would be incredibly welcome.

Here's an image of it. I can obtain whatever other information is needed.

Thanks!

The short answer is yes.

That machine can be used to perform inlay work. It will have short travel in the long direction and may limit the length on your inlays. Also you will want to be able to index the cue some how. Either with a mechanical indexer or a rotary table. Sherline makes a decent rotary table and tail stock but they are a bit pricey. You will need to make sure that your control box can handle the 4th motor.

Good luck, Jim.
