Shifting the head slightly to correct chronic misalignment of perceived shot line

I use a straight-up stereo-vision placement of my head for perceiving the shot line. That is, I place my chin directly over the cue stick (and the desired shot line) so that both eyes contribute equally to my perception.

I have experimented, briefly, with moving my head so that my right eye (I am right eye dominant) is directly over the shot line, but that just doesn't work for me, and worsens my aim. Needless to say, moving my left eye over the shot line is completely unworkable.

Why experiment at all, you might ask? Well, the fact is that it is possible for me to drop on what I perceive to be the correct line for a straight-in shot, and be off. When I'm off, I'm always off on the same side, and send the object ball slightly right of the target.

I have always known that I had this... imbalance, because, for example, my left cuts are more accurate than my right cuts. At least I think they are.

So here's my question. Is it possible that I could shift my head just slightly to the left and, after some experimentation with the amount of shift, automatically correct for my chronic misalignment?

I experimented with this idea a while the other night, but, of course, it is very difficult to objectively analyze one's self. Nevertheless, it seemed to result in some improvement in my reliability for finding the correct shot line.

Thoughts?

"Straight up" stereo is a misnomer. If you're right handed and have a typical/average stance, your left eye is closer to the balls than your right eye, unless you are unnaturally rotating your head atop the stick. A lot of chin-on-stick players still have a head rotated above the cue (so that it matches the angle of their upper torso). You really need your "vision center" above the cue ball, not the stick, to see your best:

I believe that the line connecting my eyes is perpendicular to the line of the cue stick... However, I'm at work and will have to wait until I get home to confirm this.

Thanks for that link.

I had a girlfriend used to do that for me....

The July BD article addresses the very question I posed: "If you are instead consistently missing the CB target to the left, with the OB missing the pocket to the right, try shifting your head to the left."

Thanks, again, for the Dr. Dave link. And thanks, Dr. Dave.
