Shiny butt joint

Can i paint steel butt joint if is very shiny and strikes my eyes when i play ? What paint should i use ? Thank you
 
You might need to wear sunglasses, which would be better than painting your cue.
I can't think of any paint to recommend, however I have a Tim Scruggs cue with a cocobolo joint I'll sell you
 
I would thnk someone could put a nice brushed finish on a joint easily enough and that would look much better than paint.

Depending on what kind of cue were talking about you can do it yourself too. While not a cue I did give a brushed finish to some polished knife bolsters using a Q-Wiz and it worked great. Tape off the non stainless part so you don't go into the cue finish. Wouldn't do this to a nice custom or anything, but if it's an inexpensive player it's be easy to do.

Actually, just apply an appropriately sized piece of black electrical tape. End of problem, end of story.

Bingo, this way you don't ruin the cue with any modifications and you don't waste money. If you ever resell, the cue is still original.

There was another thread about this very same thing a while back. If you search for it there may be other ideas on it.
 
You may try masking off the finish then paint the joint with some brown or black fingernail polish. Then it would be easy to remove with nail polish remover if you wanted to.
You could also put masking tape on the joint and color the tape with something like paint, polish, sharpie, ...

KJ is right man. Just go out and buy a 1" wide roll of electrical tape. Wrap it around, trim the ends to meet up and look nice. Boom done.
 
Do not use electrical tape... The adhesive gets very gummy over a short period of time especially in warm conditions and will slide around because of it... 20 years experience....Use masking tape or hazy scotch tape and a sharpie...
 
Just rub it with some 800 or 1000 grit sand paper. That will dull it down to more a brushed finish and won't really harm the clear coat if u happen to go to far.
