Shoot rail ball first or combo?

Thought I would post this table situation I had last night during league.
Playing 8ball bar table.

How would you play this shooting solids?

My plan was the 3,5,6,7 then the 8.

This has been bugging me all day...LOL.

I would shoot the 3 first, and then break up the 5-6 softly, to freeze the cue to the back of the 8 ball. It's an easy lock up safety. Of course I never play 8-ball, so that's probably the wrong shot, but it's what I would do.

I would shoot the 3 ball with draw...pocketing my opponents duck (14), this makes it easier for me to play a solid safety shot. More than likely I'll get ball in hand, and I can continue to play safeties that will break out my 5 and 6 until I am ready to run it out.

Thanks for the replies. I never thought of the saftey route. Making the 14 is a great idea.

What I did was make the 3 then combo'ed the 5-6. Unfortunately the 6 ball came up off the rail by the 8. I banked the 6 cross corner but then had a bad off angle bak left on the 7, which I missed and then my opponent ran out.

I think it might have worked out better if I shot the 3 then the 7 and come over for the combo. All the balls were on the same side of the table.

Thats the great thing about pool there is so many ways to play a rack.

Yeah, I'm actually amazed - this was exactly what I thought of, too. If by chance, I do not pocket the 14-ball, I would pocket the 7-ball and intentionally foul and tie-up the 8-ball.
