Technical adviser for the film is the 'Pool Coach' and former 'Trick Shot Artist', John "Spike" Wilds, and he says this during a featurette called "Trick Shot".
"I hope the movie is successful, but there is a subculture of movie fanatics who communicate over the Internet. And uh, they'll be allot of discussion about how the player's looked and whether they looked authentic."
I thought the movie was a hard edged film like a Tarantino/Rodriguez flick without blood spurting everywhere.
The language and content is adult, crude, and intended to disturb you. So those of you who don't like that stuff, just know it will be really tough for you to get through this movie.
Freddie Prince Jr.-FPJ was really pretty good in the film. FPJ shot well and played the tough guy pretty well. The facial damage helped allot. He was a fairly believable pool player. Ving Rhames was his usual tough badass self. For a guy who doesn't do the bar scene in real life, he was playing it like that was his lifestyle. Nice job on his character which he does get type casted for, often. Roselyn Sanchez was a sexy sultry "Twist", as the film calls her. Most of us know someone, were someone, or (God forbid) still are someone like this. She was hard to watch for me, which means she was good.
I only watched it twice so far but the continuity of the pool stuff seemed pretty good. Not allot of trick shots, but realistic shots. I admit I did like seeing the movie this way. Too many trick shots, does kind of spoil the broth.
Should you buy it on DVD? It's a pool movie, of course you should. Will you watch it more than once. I'd say maybe. It is one of those once the ending is over, some will be tempted to see how it played out after knowing the ending.
Any thoughts?
