shooting straight / not turning wrist

I noticed recently that I had started getting back into a bad habit of turning my wrist slightly when I get down on a shot and therefore the cue not going through straight.

This must be in the process of getting down into the shot because when I cue up to the ball a couple times there is no problem, the wrist doesn't turn.

A while ago, when I first was told about this, I started using the manufacturer logo to check that I was keeping on a straight line. This helps but it is tiring on the eyes and unnatural to look back at the logo at the bottom of the shaft when getting ready to shoot.

I thought about using something to mark a straight line down from the tip/ferrule area which I could use to aim, maybe a small strip of tape or something like that.

Has anyone else had this problem before and any recommendations on how to fix it?

Thanks!

I cock my wrist back (fingers forward) and think of my fingers and thumb moving forward in a slot/groove. The wrist uncocks as the hand comes forward. Use the search function and check out CJ Wiley's wrist thread for more details. It really works well, but takes some getting used to.

If your back hand in ahead of Perpendicular at time of contact, a wrist twist could happen very easily.

Which way are you turning your wrist? Several things can cause it. As for a marker of some type, just make a pencil mark on the end of your shaft by the ferrule.

Aside from what Randy said, it can be caused by stance issue. Having the cue to close or too far out from the body to where you are not aligned properly over the cue.

Something that will help.......

Many players do not even know that they are turning the wrist?

I hurt my wrist and got one of these wrist braces at walmart to minimize the movement some hoping this would help.

It not only helped but it kept me from turning my wrist resulting in better results with everything.

Now I wear the brace sometimes just to get it right. Kind of a check.

This is something that the average players is doing sometimes and you doesn't even know it.

Using the brace also forces a player to use more of the fingers and finger tips and keeps you from getting a death grip on the cue.

When you have the cue jammed up into your hand like a death grip, your whole arm is getting tight.

Get a brace and put it on and you will see if you were twisting the wrist.

You might be surprised at the results?
