Shorty please read regarding your cue

I started a new thread because I wanted to be sure you read it and the other thread was getting a little long and off topic.
This is what I understand from what he said. What he is saying is when he stripped off the old finish he found filler in the cue to hide the fact the a veneer had a piece missing. This is not his fault He had no choice at that point but to try to duplicate what they had done. He is stuck at that point since the cue now has no finish on it and something has to be done or the cue is going to look really bad, he can't just send it back he has to finish it. That is why he blames it in the cue, the cue was messed before he got it. If he had called you, you would have had to tell him to do the best he could to fix it, you would have had no choice. That is why you don't like refinishing cues, you never know what you can run into.

I refinished a cue made by Schuler and it had Deno Andrews name on the forearm. Deno may remember the cue. The name was written very large like with a magic marker or something. The new owner did not want the name on the cue and that was why he wanted the cue refinished in the first place. Well, when I stripped off the finish under where the name was there was a horrible blemish you would not believe in the birds eye maple. There was actually a hole that had been filled with what looked like wood filler, what a piece of crap it was and now I'm in the middle of this mess. I called him and brought the cue over for him to see now that the finish had been removed. When I showed him the cue he flipped out you would think I had done it, I didn't do anything other then expose a cue that looked like a piece of sh*t and should never have been sold in the first place and they had hidden the flaw with the ridiculous huge name. Regarding your cue, he should have called you about the problem but I don't think at that point either of you would have had a choice but for him to do his best to fix it. It sounds like he could have done a little better job though.

Thanks for explaining this to Shorty. Scot has seen it all. I had two such nightmare cases, where points were damaged and filled. The smoke and mirrors of refinishing only go so far. Once veneers are damaged, it is almost impossible for them to look like they originally did.

I have told Scott and Matt on numerous occasions on the minor stuff to "just fix it". They are incredibly fair. I have 100% trust in them. Scott is a perfectionist. He won't even attempt to fix something he is not 100% confident he can do.

One time Scott called me up and said: "Chris, I'm going to just clean this cue up for $30 and send it back to you. Sell it!"

Hey macguy

Thanks...seriously...I appreciate that well thought out and well said explanation.

If Scot would of called me and explained it to me in that way, I would not of hesitated to let him do his job. The problem I had with it was he didn't communicate with me at all. He didn't even take the time to send me an email or phone call with the tracking number when the cue was on the way back to me UNTIL I contacted him.

I think what I learned in all of this was Scot Sherbine is a great guy for doing cue refinish work and does a fantastic job like everyone says, he just lacks in the customer service department...and I can live with that.

Thank you,
Shorty

Shorty,

Seriously, their customer service is great. They have never once failed to return my call or try to help me. They are just really busy all the time and he probably figured he would just fix it and explain later. He probably spent an hour messing with that veneer when it was supposed to be a simple refinish job. If they don't take it down to the wood, they're not doing their job either.
