Should Good Pool Rooms have aftermarket shafts available for testing?

I realize every Pool Room can not do this, but a fairly large Pool Room that offers many amenities, has their own store and pro shop.

Should they stock aftermarket shafts (even just 1 each), and let potential customers test hit with the shaft? In otherwords, have a test cue available where interested parties can test a 314, Z shaft, OB-1 shaft right there in the Pool Room?

I think this could be a service that would interest a lot of customers, especially intermediate and higher level league players of all kinds.

Of course, they could have a few rules, like no breaking the balls with them, normal type shots, etc..

I know, my cuemaker, Bob Owen, of Shurtz Custom Cues, makes his own version of the 314 and 314-2 (Z shaft), and have no doubts that he would allow me to test hit with the shafts if I wanted to.

So, is this type of service something a large or well equiped Pool Room should provide to potential customers?

The Universal Smart Shaft sends a demo shaft to every dealer , my local hall has one and I have tested with it on my cue 2 times now , of course the USS has the 5 or so different joint connections that come with it so maybe its easier for this shaft to have a demo.

ideally all top rooms would have a well stocked pro shop

the reality is internet shops have made it damn near impossible for a brick and mortar store to survive

imo, in this day and age, I think it would be more beneficial for top rooms to employ the services of a good custom cue man who also does good repairs and maintenance

Test shafts

That would be nice, but I doubt that any of the larger pool rooms would be interested. The owner of 3 pool rooms where I live could care less about cues, shafts, or even good pool players for that matter. His emphasis is on bar sales and food sales. He once stated that pool was just an excuse for his customers to come out and drink, but i'm sure that there are many nice pool rooms owned by people who don't think like this and maybe one of them might give your idea a try if he or she thought they might be able to sell some after market shafts to make a little profit.

I guess I am fortunate but...

The owner of Cues II where I play has a nicely stocked shop withuin the pool room and he seems to sell a lot of cues! I know Richard will let a player he knows try out a cue before purchasing! So in here at least the answer is yes!:)

The idea sounds GREAT. However there are LOTS of aftermarket shafts and lots of different threaded joints. As someone mentioned the USS is probably the only one which would be easy to demo.

It would make the decision to purchase far easier for most.

even the most well stocked stores pale in comparison to the big internet stores

and sadly, most room owners see pool as a means to selling food and drink
