Should I have seen this coming? Would you have?

Last night played an even match, 4-4 race, in 8-ball. I lost the lag by less than 1/2". First rack I attempted a jump over the 8, caught the top of it, and sent it six feet dead straight into a corner. Ugh.

I was actually shooting well, just getting really bad rolls. My opponent made some really good safeties. When he missed, which wasn't often, he managed to go two- or three-rails and hide the CB. Ugh.

But the ultimate insult was this back-cut-bank on the 8. I put a touch of right spin to counteract the cut-induced spin the 8-ball would receive. The 8 banked dead-center into the opposite side. It was beautiful! But wait...the CB came off the long rail, went down to the short rail near the center diamond, then straight, into the same pocket the 8 just went in, like it had eyes.

Some days the Pool Gods are not with you. Ended up losing "rackless", 0-4. Ugh.

In spite of my stating last week that I was going to take this week off. Ugh. At least I helped teammates win three racks with some well-placed timeouts, including a nice "ooh, aah" "spot-on-the-wall-three-rail-to-knock-in-a-corner-hanger" that is easy to execute, if you see it and know how to execute it.

Would you have seen this scratch?

The short rail -> center pocket scratches are always a tough pill to swallow because they seem so unlikely, especially on tighter tables. Unless I'm on a table with 5.5"+ side pockets, I'd probably just focus on making the bank and accept that scratch as a risk.

I would not have seen it coming.

Last week I played a small local 9 ball tournament.
First round - group round, played everyone round robin, race to 3.
Won my first match 3-0
Second match, I played a weak opponent, I got the first game with a long combo on the 9. And then 3 games in a row - I run most of the balls and scratched on the 9, loosing 1-3…
It happens.

The 2 railer to the side happens to me just running the CB off a cut. I think the outside spin you had on it sealed it. There's also a 3 or 4 to the corner off your bank.

I don’t think I would have seen it coming .. the odds of the scratch in the side our so minimal if I’m shooting that 8 I’m just focused on a smooth medium stroke. I know the scratch is possible but more times then not it won’t . That’s the way it goes sometimes.
