I have a great old W.Hoppe one piece in great condition. Solid as hell with a nice thick butt. I just got the idea to turn it into a two piece with an ivory joint. I'm assuming it should play great. Are the percentages in my favor that I'm right?

Slim,

I'm a big fan of conversions. Love 'em to death, I do.

I would say that the cue should play great, if you convert it........with a CATCH!!

I would suggest that you have somebody VERY well known do the job. They've built a reputation for a reason....and the extra money you spend for them to do it would be worth it in the long run. Both for peace of mind...and future resale value.

Just my $.02

Have big name cue maker do it.It will me worth a lot more and easey to sell. I would have bill schick do it in my opinion.:) :) :) A few more that would be cool to would me mottey, black boar, tim scruggs.

I have a 2 piece hoppe that Mike Webb is doing a conversion on right now. When i get it back at the end of August i will post some pictures of it...mike

Joe Callaluca

He isn't a big name yet, but I am having one done by Joe Callaluca of New Hampshire. He does fantastic work. I have managed to acquire a few of his cues, and they are always top notch. I highly recommend him to anyone. Check with Guycrunch. Joe did his, and it is sweet!!

I have this Brunswick B26 cue which I had converted with Ivory Joints and Ferrules with a Predator Shaft fitted http://cgi.ebay.com/Custom-Brunswic...ryZ21212QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

In original Condition the Blue Book of Pool Cues values the cue at $4750.

Now I have converted the cue I have been told it may be worth half the amount..Here are some pictures of the conversion http://www.schoolofcolor.com/CustomIvoryBrunswickB26Cue/ImageOne.html

I would think about it seriously and get some advice before you go ahead with it. You may get a good cue maker to convert the cue and have it looking very pretty. But you may find in the long run that it has been devalued.

I may be wrong with your model cue...but that is my experience if you wish to sell the cue in future.

Cheers:)

I wrestled with that thought a while back, I feel since they are in no way scarce, having been mass produced for forty some odd years, you may as well customize it. You will no doubt have plenty of input on it so add some vintage inlays to it and make it REALY cool! what a photo op!

Thanks for the great info!

I'll never sell it and I haven't realy played with it in over 20 years. Its in my familys basement just sitting there. I looked at it last week and it was still perfectly straight. I took a few shots and it felt great, like hitting with a tree trunk. The veners are beautiful just dull from the years

One of the things I miss with newer cues is the thicker butt. Its a big reason I love my Paradise.

The concensus seems to lean towards choosing a top cue maker. Thats what I'll do.

All your comments are much appreciated.

Consider Cost of the Conversion, verses buying New to obtain the SAME OOLD WOOD QUALITY HIT. Think your question is a No Brainer, if the Hoppie is in GREAT SHAPE....DO.....IT
