Should pains

Hellooooooooo.....

I have to warn against this practice. I work as an orthopedic physical therapist, and see this type of injury, and many of the others discussed on here on a daily basis. I know that all the people giving advice mean well, however, I can also tell you that about 90% of the advice regarding medical issues given on this forum is incorrect, and at least 30-40% of it would be contra-indicated for the symptoms listed.

Would you go on a medical forum and ask about your pool stroke. Imagine the asnwers you would be given. People telling of their own experiences is great, but assuming that their injury is the same as yours, and that what helped them will help you, is not always correct.

I was Kidding! Sheesh!

Shortside, I've been to my doctor twice. All I get is prescription strength naproxen. I am currently seeking another doctor as mine is no longer reliable. I have received some possibly good advice some insight and maybe some understanding of my problem on this forum (imagine that); it is also good to know I am not alone. Forums are good for stuff like this. However every now and then you have a post where everyone is contributing something good, then someone makes a post that contributes absolutely nothing to a thread but a sarcastic remark. You don't think I've been to a doctor?
anyway...

Mantis99, Thank you very much for your input, it's greatly appreciated. I have scaled back my workouts to limit the amount of stress on my shoulders. I am very fond of my military presses and inclined benches. Although exercise doesn't hurt my shoulders I can see by your post that those particular moves may exacerbate my condition. Do you know if a general practice doctor can evaluate me or would you recommend a specialist. I've shelled out money for 2 doctors visits already. I have a PPO so I don't have to go through a doctors recommendation first. By the way, I really put A LOT of thought into what you said about laying my elbow on the table. I actually got through a 4 hour session of pool today with barely a fraction of the pain I normally get after an hour. Funny thing is, it took me twice as long to shoot than normal, especially being so focused on the shoulder. 20 minutes of ice and the pain was gone. No NSAIDs for a few days, I've been on them for about a week now. I still prefer to treat the disease rather than the symptoms though.

I would recommend going to an orthopedic surgeon that specializes in treating shoulders. General practitioners have to know about so many different things, that unless they make an emphasis in sports medicine, their ortho knowledge is no where near as in depth as an orthopedists. Often times antiinflammatories are a good first step, but if it is not enough, then you should be given a referral for PT, or at least some exercises. Sometimes a cortizone shot will be beneficial, but I wouldn't think they would want to do it on you yet. I will try to post a link to some tonight.
