Shuddy’s take on 14.1 high runs

I don’t have a Fargo. I’ve never played a Fargo rated player (EDIT: sorry, I’ve never played in a Fargo rated event). I’ve beaten professionals that represented their country in the world cup of pool, and I’ve lost to people for whom a break and run is a celebratory occasion 😂
Right on. I actually just watched a bit of your high run in the 2021 high run thread. Nice shooting. MUCH better than me. My high is 39, and that was not recently. I am going to give it a go and try to post something respectable up! Near-term goal, 40...

/messing up this great thread with off topic discussion...(Back to work!)

That’s the awesome thing about 14.1, it’s so easy to set goals that are relevant to you, and those goals can provide as much enjoyment for you personally as someone’s else’s goals. I’ve offered the equivalent of $50 to my small group of pool friends (who live a plane trip away) if anyone runs 29 balls, in an attempt to get them into straight pool. It still hasn’t been claimed 😂 And one of them put $50 up for me to run a hundred.

What you fail to mention is that the promotor and cast trashed the previous record holder daily on this forum for months. So then they collude to break the record from a man they did not like.

I respect Jason and his fantastic achievement (without question). However the cast of characters that trashed John leave a bad taste. The promotor did not even have the class to recognize the prior record (while he made claims of running over 300 😂). Even D.H questioned that...

This clown show hi-lites why American pool mostly sucks.

My opinion

Nice post but I had to chime in with 4th hand knowledge and expertise.

W. Mosconi ran the 526 on an oversized 8’ table - which in my opinion (as a previous owner of a Brunswick of said size) is the funnest and easiest table size of all. You’ve got more room to work with than an 8 and the long shots don’t seem nearly as long as a 9.

Very nice. I've actually gotten some 8 ball\9 ball-pool friends into a little weekly bet we have for the highest recorded run. They'd never played straight pool before. Our first week, the high run was something like 19. They were both mad and guaranteed that they would be getting through 3 racks and pushing 50 in no time. I disagreed but sure hoped to be wrong. Needless to say, after about 3 weeks of tries, that 50 is safe from the group. Just last night, one of them expressed their frustration as they were unable to get past that first break ball. I think it's hilarious.

Agreed on having personal goals. Did I say 40 before? The way I'm shooting right now, my new near-term goal is to get past two break balls. A frustrating and humbling game...

Sure, but I didn’t fail to mention that I specifically didn’t want to talk about any of that, and it didn’t play any part in my take on the situation.

As an aside, and as a former snooker player, I understand that cuesports should be played as a gentleman’s game. However, off the table, as in every single competitive activity, there are rivalries, friendships, anomalies, eccentrics, and the list goes on. I’m not surprised that there is no love lost between certain camps within the pool world. I’d be surprised if that wasn’t case. It doesn’t affect who the world record holder is now, and who it might be in the near future, and so on.

I am mostly in agreement. So good on you (as your cousins say)! Cheers 🥂
