Side Pockets

There's always alot of talk about what size the corner pockets are but I am just wondering here. Are side pockets always 1/2" wider than the corner pockets? Or is it normal for a table with 4" or 4 1/8" or 4 1/4" corner pockets to still have 5" side pockets?

A long time ago I had a very good player tell me that nobody ever goes under 5" for side pockets, that anything less was just too small. Mine are currently 4 3/4" and shots into them are fairly tough.

I’ve seen specs suggested with 4 7/8 the minimum - yours are definitely tight - what are the corners?

Don't the recent MR tables have 4"ers all around? The only problem with side pockets is there is no rail funnel to guide the eyes. If you do shoot at 'em, shoot 'em like you'd shoot a corner pocket. IOW, firmly.

Corners are 4.5" and they play really tough/tight. It's a 22+ year old Gold Crown IV. Balls typically don't want to wipe their feet and fall in on my table.
5" and 5 1/2" would have been standard, I believe? Sounds like someone wanted it "tougher" and sounds like it is.

1/2 inch bigger than the corners is the norm.
Pro norm is 4.5 and 4.75
Now being reduced to 4 and 4.5 in a lot of events.
The difference isn't that much for pocketing...but makes some position shots harder because you can't cheat the pocket as much.

Gold crown rails/pockets are cut notoriously wonky.

Also the person who bolted down the rails could slide Them towards the corners a bit before bolting them down...in an effort to tighten the corners.

The corners are 4.125" and the sides are 4.875" on my Gold Crown I.

Are you saying side pockets are being reduced to 4" and 4.5"???

Or are you saying the that's the corner pockets?
