Simonis Cloth Tours new format. What do you think?

I have played in this simonis cloth tours event and several other tours and events and I really like this new format they have. I think they borrowed the concept form the apa's us amateur or masters division. They play 8-ball and 9-ball in 1 race to 9. You flip a coin and the winner of the flip gets to pick if they break first or pick the game, 8 or 9-ball first. I always pick 8ball first. In the race you play 7 games of 8-ball and up to 10-games of 9-ball to get to a score of 9 for the winner. If you play 9-ball first you can get swept by only playing 9ball so most people pick 8ball first. They do not allow top players/pros to play and there is no handicap which I really like.

Has anybody ever played in these events or a format like this with added money? What do you think of the format?

I've played in a format like this very briefly in a Master's league they had local. I greatly prefer the format. I too always choose 8 ball first. It was fun and really let me let my game loose. I didn't have to focus on one game type too much. You've got to have a different frame of mind when playing each game and I'm good at switching my pattern play to accommodate the appropriate game. Highly enjoyed the format.

Basically this is the format that the Tennessee Amatuer tourny has used for years.(JOB's in Nashville)

I think choosing 8-ball 1st gives players like us, "league caliber" a better chance. And I really like not getting tortured rack after rack by a better 9ball player. 9ball tournaments were getting stale but this format got me interested again.
