Simonis & Ridgeback on a Valley

Hi,

I just bought a 7' valley bar box and I am planning to add Simonis cloth and Ridgeback rails to make the table play very well. I am not a table mechanic and I have never worked on a table before however I plan on doing plenty of research on the internet and performing the work myself. Before I dive into my research I have a few questions:

1. Is the Simonis installation training video worth buying for the rails and cloth?

2. Is the cloth stretcher tool worth buying?

3. Someone mentioned that there is a specific Simonis installation training video for valley tables however I cannot find it. Does it exist?

4. I have the option to buy precut Simonis cloth for the same price as uncut. Should I go for it or do you think it is cut specifically to fit a diamond table(not a valley)? Are the cloth cutting patterns on Simonis' website made for only diamonds or valleys too?

5. I keep hearing that I should level the slate before I assemble the legs however my floor is not completely level so I don't understand how I can do this. Is this step really all that necessary? Or is there an easier way to do this that I'm overlooking?

6. Can someone recommend a website for buying the 3M Fast-Bond10™ glue that is recommended?

7. At this point I am sort of clueless as to what's involved with the rail installation. I need to do my research but I am trying to order all the materials and tools online so that I can research while they are being shipped. Are there any specific tools or accessories you think I might need to buy for the rails?

My advice is to hire a real mechanic and watch them first.

Or practice with much cheaper cloth. You will probably wreck the cloth on your first go round because it is very easy to do that.
 
I have the set up exactly as you describe. Kerry @ Ridgeback is great. Have him cover the rails, it's worth it. I did not use the Simonis video and I bought, but did not use the 3M glue. Used spray on glue instead. That was 3 or so years ago and it is still working out. We folded the cloth under the slate and let the weight do some of the holding for us. Stretched it reasonably tight, but did not agonize over it. Fairly easy install. Good luck, you can't go too wrong.
 
If you order the rails pre-covered from Ridgeback Rails, and you follow the Simonis DVDs closely, there isn't a whole lot you can screw up.

There's a bunch of video's on youtube, I watched a few different ones and my son & I got it done. Kerry covered our ridgebacks and shipped the table cloth with them. It's much easier with two people so you get the stretch right. We used 3m super 77 which we bought at home depot and a brand new razor blade for cutting the pockets. Watch video's until you feel ready to go. Good Luck :thumbup:

Yea I'm with him just spend few extra bucks and have pro do it I just did all same on my vally it plays great and I let a pro do it

When Valley changed the corner castings to the flush design they also updated the rails to 5 bolt , they sell update kits but how far back they would work i don't know. You might check with them.

Oops , my bad on the 5 bolt , you can use them because they have the 3 holes in the same location , but you would have to have a couple of more holes drilled , so really no advantage or cost effective.
