Simple Tip Protector / Chalk Preventer

Kinda goofy but I've found that a common pipe thread protector (of the correct size for a tight fit) works wonderfully for protecting the cue tip. It also keeps the chalk off the inside of the case as well. They can be found at most hardware type stores.

The plastic is only about 1/16" (1.5mm) thick and fits in my case easily. Finding one with a snug fit is important so it does not fall off when taking the shaft out. Cheap solution to a minor problem but it works great.

Not goofy at all Mn. I like the way you think.
How would you like to come and work for Steamer Cue Sports Ltd. in our R&D department? We could use a bright young fellow such as you.
The job doesn't pay much (actually it doesn't pay anything at all) but the experience is priceless.
Think about it and get back to me.
I have to go see the doctor now. Something about schock treatments.

tip covers

Being a telephone systems man, not AT&t or verizon etc..., I go to a lot of businesses to repair their phone systems. At one place where they manufacture cable, I saw hundreds of these little red plastic caps laying all over every where (big plant, 1000's of square feet) picked up about dozen or so off the floor. Man, these things fit perfectly! They were about 2 or 3 inches long, so they covered past the ferrules. They look very similar to what is originaly posted at the beginnig of this post but are longer and red. Looks like the end caps to a role of RG6 cable (RG6 cable is what brings cable tv into your home)

Kind of a long commute but what the hell. I'll start tomorrow.

Don't forgrt your mouth guard when you go to the doctor. Don't want to chip a tooth :D.

Great idea! Got to get me some. Any idea os the size to get for 13mm tips? Thanks!

Not sure on the size, I pick them up at work and thereabouts. I've seen them at Lowes and Home Depot in assorted packs. Maybe bring the shaft to the hardware store for a fit check before buying some. You'll probably get a few funny looks though.

pooldawg - I've seen these things on pipe ends, threaded shafts, cable ends, etc. They seem to be everywhere. I got mine to cover some exposed bolt ends on the kid's swing set many years ago. Looked at one and thought, hmmm, that just might work on my cue.

Cheers everyone,
RG

They have been used for years in automotive, vacuum caps, fuel lines etc. Your local auto parts store should have them.
