Slate mismatched

I had to move my brunswick windsor for remodeling purposes and wanted to reinstall it myself. i fought it for a couple of nights to the point where i was satisfied. the day after i put on the simonis 860, i could feel the slate line almost halfway across on one seam. is this fixable without buying new felt?

Depending on how close you trimmed the extra cloth it should be reusable. You might need some pliers and maybe some 3m glue for extra hold when you install the cloth again. Look in unusual tools section to see some duck bill pliers or sheetmetal pliers tha you can buy @ Orchard supply or some other hardware stores made by Vise-Grip.

I learned to leave as much cloth as possible when I trim to have something to grab onto. Especially true with my old no-name table where the slates would change depending on the time of year/humidity. I suspect it was the high moisture content in the old italian slates.

Warning, warning, warning ...off topic from here on: I compared the italian and brazilian rock under my hand lens and the brazilian was finer-grained and tighter. My initial opinion is that the brazilian has undergone a slightly higher grade of metamorphism resulting in tighter grain pattern and less room for water in the matrix. Really it depends on the quarry location relative to the geology, not the country.

Thanks for the help. i live in minnesota where the table will probobly change with the seasons so it may be a reacurring event. next time i will not even trim the cloth.

Most Italian slate is mined underground. The slate is more pourous. Most Brazilian slate is surface mined from areas with quick water runoff. Not sure about Chinese slate.
