slate pocket radius

I got my first table (brunswick centennial) about 8 years ago and shortly after it was installed, the cloth ripped at the top/edge of a pocket. When they came back to replace the cloth, they said it was because the slate had not been chamfered enough. They sanded the pocket in question and added a piece of felt to the face of the pocket, said it would help even more. Unfortunately about 2 years later another tear/rip developed on a different pocket at the top edge. Given the time frame and size of the tear I didn't pursue a repair.

I'm putting down new felt on the table and during my research I didn't see/read about adding a strip to the face of the pockets. Is it needed ? After I removed the old cloth, I have taken some 120 grit to the edges and made them feel very smooth and round.

thanks in advance,

Jeff

That strip can help keep the balls from wearing through the cloth when they bounce back into the edge of the slate off the back of the pocket. Making sure you remove the sharp edges in the slate shelf will help as well.
