Hi,

i was just wondering how many of AZs members followed the ole pool creedo "if u snooze, u lose" - in my experience playing pool ( especially 1hole ) i find that having a clear understanding and agreement about this before the flip of the coin is always best . I never assume anything if i'm playing for the dough and i honestly think that u should keep track of your own balls and/or ball count and fouls and games won .

I've seen guys almost get into fights because of something that they should have cleared up before the coin flip .

I am a firm believer in the snooze rule, whether it be on the coin, on fouls owed, ball count etc . I've seen guys snooze their coin before and it took a sweater ( who had a little sweat bet with a guy sitting a couple of seats down from him ) to motion towards the player "move your friggin coin!"

i would like to know your thoughts on this, i know it has come up in one way or another .

I half agree with you, I don't go around "walking the player through the set" but I believe what goes around comews round. I've called fouls on myself ...... I spend more time making sure I don't run into double coin movesd etc

i use that rule..snooze u lose in one pocket if u owe a ball..problem is im usually the one that forgets my opponent owes a ball and snoozes it all the time!! guess i shouldnt use that rule!!!
 
Sorry, but what are sleepers?

I've only been playing for 6 years and have a lot to learn.

Sleeper

Suppose your opponent fouls but has no balls. Typically he puts up a coin and removes it when he spots his penalty. If you fail to remember and spot the ball for the foul, then you are a "sleeper" and lose the opportunity to make the opponent pay for the original foul.

When I first started playing one pocket I used to be pretty agreeable on playing by these little rules however my opponent wanted to play (i.e. sleepers, base of the ball/behind the line, even one foot on the floor/get on the table). The more I played, the more I realized some of these local rules are just not in the spirit of the game, especially the sleepers rule. If a ball is owed, that fact does not change just because someone forgot to spot it up during the game. Now if the game has ended, I can't help you there. But if a ball is owed, it should come up once both players realize it should've come up. I understand that the snoozers rule may help avoid some arguments, but in my experience, the ones who argue the most are the stone cold suckers and what does it matter if they argue anyway? You're still gonna bust'em.

BTW, Pete, some people play that owed balls, if forgotten, are not owed anymore after an inning has passed. Chew on that.
