slightly oversized shaft diameter and effects on playability

I've been playing with an aftermarket shaft on one of my cues that is not flushed to the joint. For example, the shaft collar diameter measures .850" and the joint collar is .840". So there's an excess .005" around the joint when put together. It's been this way for about a year. Not a big deal (I'm thinking) with it being off a little... or is it?

I'm wondering how fixing this will affect hit feedback since all surface area on the shaft collar is making contact with the joint or is the .005" difference insignificant that it won't be much of a change other than aesthetics?

It has been on my to-do list to have the shaft sanded and re-sprayed, but just wasn't in a hurry.

The slight difference in diameters is not influencing the hit now,
nor will it once it's removed. The hit will remain the same.

At what point does it effect the play? Most joints are from .835"-.855" I believe. What if I decided to make them to .865"? What would the downfall be? The cue hits good as far as I can tell but I'm guessing there is some reason that I haven't found yet for this. Just deciding before I buy mandrels.

You may be misunderstanding the OP's question. Take the numbers out of it, they are irrelevant.
He's saying his shaft's jnt dia. is oversize to the handle's jnt dia. by a few thou.
Will that diff. alter the hit once it's removed? Answer is no.
What you want to build your cue jnt dia. at has no relevance to his question.
 
To the OP sorry to miss lead your thread. I also have been playing with a cue that I have not fixed the joint after I purchased a used shaft. The cue plays very well and never comes loose. I don't think you will ever have a problem with your cue.
