Slow play by pros

Well which is it, bangers will get steamed rolled or will lay down? My guess the bangers would appreciate some cash but will never lay down. Pros will probably play faster for the cash.

As noted in this thread, it is a select number of “Pros” that are the issue. Bangers will never leave their chair.

ETA: it would sort of be self policing, if you have a fast player and a slow player in a match, it would add another dynamic and layer of intensity for both. Little more heat in the kitchen! The deeper you go and the faster you play, the more cash potential.

how about this, until they figure out shot clock for all:

don't put the well known slow asses on any stream table. they get less exposure, their sponsors get less exposure = they better pick up their pace.

they can use AST, average shot time, if the selection seems too arbitrary

You can lose a hill-hill match with your opponent making a slop shot. Your opponent continues in the tournament and you’re out. I’m not going to go through every tournament to see who would have been eliminated if it weren’t for luck, it shouldn’t be part of any game of “skill”, horseshoes maybe, but not pool
The loser lost because he didn’t play well enough, not because of the lucky roll at the end. Unless in an alternate break format where the opening break was decided by a coin flip instead of lag and each game was a break and run. Except in that situation it is the losers fault alone. If there was a single shot or situation in all of the games leading up to the hill- hill game where the loser could have done something better and won a game, it is his fault. All his fault. Gave the opponent a chance to get lucky. That’s sports, that’s life. If the loser played his absolute best, the harsh reality was that it wasn’t good enough in that match. But it will be good enough some other time probably.

That said, don’t try to take luck out of games. It cannot be done. And should not be done. In any sport worth watching with pretty even match ups and small margins, stuff happens.

Kinda dumb thing to say. If it’s a hill-hill match or any match and my opponent is shooting the nine, misses his pocket and it goes 3 rails into another hole, he wins. In 10 ball he would not have won because he missed his intended pocket. That’s why slop shots(9 ball) should not be allowed in tournament play.

Yeah pretty dumb. I should know that 9 ball is no skill and 10 ball is the be all, end all of cue sports. I’ll try to be smarter someday.

Wasn’t calling you dumb, just struck me as a dumb thing to say. I say dumb stuff all the time. Nine ball takes skill, I grew up on it, just don’t think slop should be allowed in any tournament especially pro level

all pro sports except chess maybe which is dull to watch and hence has no viewers.

all have luck shots in the game. and that is the whole point as viewers want to see excitement not just boring systematic play.

and the creme rises to the top anyway. and if you had little to no luck shots then who would enter a tournament knowing the best would win in
the exact order of their ability of each one.

pool is dying or not expanding much yet poker is booming with muti million dollar payouts. and will continue to do so until it stops catering to the penny pinches for entry fees.
