Small ferrule chalk on stick problem.

Firstly, I know how to properly chalk a tip, but... accidents do happen. Anyway, the problem is that I'm new to the super small ferruled shafts & occasionally grab the wrong chalk or in the heat of a game while studying the run I hold the chalk on the tip & then when I've made the decision i quickly chalk improperly. So...the question is, is there a relyable way to 'protect' the shaft wood from the chalk? Thanks in advance for any help.

Seal Your Shaft

It sounds to me like you need to go to your local repair guy or CM and have him seal your shaft and ferrule. Once you do this the chalk should not get into the poors of the wood and a towel should take it off pretty easy.
