snake wood plain jane cue

Is there a cue maker out there that can make a snake wood plain jane cue.I no the wood is hard to work with and has to cored for sure.I got a quote once from a cue maker he said about $2,000.00 and give him 20 years because ya never no what the wood will do.If any one has ever seen a plain jane snake wood cue please post a pic I would love to see it the wood looks so cool bye it's self.

Almost anyone can do it. But it sounds like you don't want to pay a fortune. So you might try Wayne Holmes in Waxhaw, NC. 704-843-1888. He seems to give a lot of cue for the money. I have chosen not to build any plain jane cues at this time myself.

Hi Matthew
I did enquire about the price of one such cue from Viattorre and the price quoted was within your budget. But that was ages ago and prices might have went up. You might want to check with them. :)
Many thanks.

I can already see it coming. Every cue maker in the country is going to beat your door down for the opportunity to make a cue for you. Blud will probably be the first in line (yeah, right!!) Stanton, you come up with some of the most "dorkiest" stuff I've ever seen.

The name is spell staton for one and what is dorky about a snakewood plain jane, with a black linen wrap or a leather wrap .Would look sharp in my opinion.I would not want blud to make my cue. I worked at a shop and had 7 of his cues all which the ferrules fell off everyone of them. His cues are not very impressive to me as he only uses his joint style. If I did not like it the resale sucks ass to for blud cues.Look how many are on ebay under half the retail and can't even get one bid.The cue maker that gave me that $2,000 quote was paul Dayton who I think makes one awsome hitting cue and has all my respect for his craft he said that because snake wood is a hard but dry britle wood that can basical break when your turning it thats what he told me.Every cue maker has there own way of making cues and style.they also have there favorite woods they like to use to make cues to.Thats why I asked the question nothing dorky about it MR.Tell it like it is why don't ya use your realy name.Must be a nother Blud ass kisser yep thats got to be it.

Thank you for letting me no.They make a very nice looking and playing cue I might have to pick one up.

StaNton, I wasn't referring to the cue being dorky, I was referring to you.
Dude, you need to clean your act up. You have a history of being critical of other people, your contributions to this forum are generally of little or no value, and your writing style, especially your lack of punctuation and poor spelling, indicate a lack of education and laziness.

A maker quoting you $2000 for that cue? He probably knows your name from this forum and just doesn't care to do business with you. Or at least if he's smart he won't.

And there you go again being critical by making ill remarks about Bluds cues. Damn, leave the man alone will ya.

"His cues are not very impressive to me as he only uses his joint style"
What makes you think he wants to impress YOU! As with any cuemaker, he has the right to choose how he makes his cues. If his style doesn't suit you, go somewhere else.

Why not use my real name? Hell man, I may have the misfortune of being related to you somewhere down the line. I wouldn't want people to know that!!!

Don't you have floors to mop and dishes to wash?

I know of one local player-collector who had a snakewood cue made by a popular Florida-based maker.
The cue exploded.
Snakewood does that.

I heard that about snakewood myself. Its very brittle

snakewood Bert Schrager

I had bert schrager build me a snakewood plain jane a few years ago, it took him three times to get the core to work without cracking the wood, he actually had to call me and get a 'supplemental price adjustment' because he had to spend another 200 bucks on some more wood to build the cue. so after 3 years the cue was finished. this is probably why Dayton wants so much $$ is because he knows materials will likely eat his lunch to build the cue right. my cue is beautiful though, and worth $$ and the wait.

you can see the cue on the 'post your snakewood cue' thread.

actually the last time I was in Paul's shop (couple months ago) he had started cutting up a BIG block of snakewood and was coring pieces to make into cues. He had one nice looking forend he'd done over a 6 year period and on the last turn it had split. He likes the look but hates its' characteristics. Too hard to work with.

Like others have advised, Snakewood is not the best choice for the structural parts of a cue. If used, it should cored and you still have a big chance of checking or splitting. It's much better suited for inlays and points.

just more hot air!
