Sneakey Petes

Anybody have any advice on the best ones out?

I want one. I want it to be a "true" sneaky pete also...no half way sneaky's....I already have one as my main player...McDermott G226 which is basically a sneaky with an irish linen wrap and a G core shaft. I want a pure looking cue that I can shoot with at the local watering hole without getting weird glances and called a hustler and not being able to get the 5-10 a game 8 ball games after some beers...because clearly I am not a hustler. I play to win if I'm playing my grandmother.

I don't really want a super expensive custom cue so that's out.

The best one I've seen and hit with is the Players sneaky.

Any other suggestions?

Find a nice conversion from a custom cuemaker. It would be hard to say any one of them is the best. Post a price range, too.

Just a suggestion . . .

A "subtle" Sneaky . . . by Doug Patrick. He hangs out here. Very nice . . . Doug builds a great player's cue.

You're not fooling anyone, anyway

so why not just take your tip scuffer with you, pick out the best cue off the wall, dress the tip & play with that.

You avoid any hassles of bringing in you own cue.

I'll vouch for how well JN's cues play, and for a custom that's a great price. Production cue wise, I have a $30 pawn shop Players sneaky in my "beater bag" that plays great, and I never worry about it getting stolen or having to club my way out of a bar if things go that way.

Yeah I should have mentioned price range. I really don't want anything expensive at all. Definitely under 200 and preferably 150 or less. I really just want it to take to smokey, drunken filled bars. And like Dallas mentioned, I do not want to be worried about it getting stolen.

Thanks for the responses fellas.

Players makes an good expensive np that looks identical to many house cues. Why pay several hundred for a np that others will be picking up and breaking with whenever you turn your back.

Action makes a variety of sneaky pete cues and they all retail between $59 to $75 dollars and hit great.... good luck on your cue search!!!

Maybe you can just stay with the McDermot Hustler?

I think you should be able to get it around $200 somewhere?

It plays great, looks pretty sneaky ;)

Meucci makes a real deal Sneaky Pete. They play like champs and look the part. No joint collar or fancy points. 2 bills new.

Get one, you will be glad you did. I've been using one for over 10 years and it is still monster hitter.

Hit up KOINNKID for a SneakiestPete. True sneaky with no joint collars or buttcap, under $200 with a G-10 joint pin and a Kamui tip. Great looking wood choices yet still a very unassuming cue with strong performance.

I just picked up an unplayed Canadian made Dufferin SP in a trade - hits nice and solid and looks great too - just like the Doug Patrick pictured earlier, in fact, but much more 'sneaky'.

Anyone know how much a cue like that is worth? I'm not used to deflection, so will probably look to offload.

Thanks for the input guys.

I have a PM from a guy offering a McDermott "hustler" that is retired, which I is what I wanted but I couldn't justify spending the 250-300 that a few sites that had a little stock of them had it listed for.

I love my McDermott player and even my cheap "Lucky" that I got when I originally started playing. I guess I just like the 'wood to wood' feel that McDermotts have.

The only other one I've gotten to try other than the Players was a Rage, which honestly felt like a toy when I hit balls with it.

Muellers has a hustler , bocote , think it is made by Ryan of Rat cues , piloted 5/16 x 14 , believe it is 140.
