Snooker Cue

I've played pool off and on for more years than I care to admit. I recently moved to London and thought I would give snooker a try. I would like to buy a cue and am willing to pay $200-$300. Where can I tryout different cues in London? Are there any manufacturers that you recommend? What are your recommendations - 1, 2, 3, or 4 piece construction?

Thanks,

Bob

Peradon cues, John Parris cues.

Both of Peradon and Parris are NO GOOD!!!! =)
I'd go for Mastercraft or Craftsman! =) best cues for the money!
you can also buy Mike Wooldridge "Shark cue"!

occasionally you might. more often than not you just find plonkers who think a quality cue will improve their game, idiots asking for help as they cant glue a tip on. a few hundred posers who pay £100 for a cue and a further £200 for it's plastic badge and a collection of the dumbest threads imaginable such as "Is Ronnie gonna appear on come dancing or not?"

But back to the question..

John Parris and Hunt and Osborne are the two most know london cuemakers but like most things in london they are way overpriced. Making a snooker cue isn't rocket science it's quite simple really any chippy can make one as good as any full time cuemaker if he takes a bit of pride in his work and measures rather than guesses (the cause of so many uneven splices) £25 will buy you a nice piece of seasoned ash or maple from a lumber yard £40 a jet black piece of gaboon ebony £5 for the brass fittings £20 for say a top splice of a burl and a couple of quid for bit of coloured veneer and a tip. That's £92 (including postage) The rest is labour, approx 5hrs, another £50 say and you've as good a cue at £140 as the priciest you can find at £600+

Peradon cues are as good as any, though they are made in liverpool not london. Their only downside being they lacquer them which many players dont like but it's nothing you cant fix yourself for less than a fiver with some linseed oil and some wet n dry papers and 30 mins or so.

Off the shelf (almost anyways) IMO the best new cue for your money is the craftsman ultimate at £160

unless you know someone who can get a discount  or any of the craftsmancues classic range. and the mastercue probutt 3 here:
http://www.bluemoonleisure.com/master_cue_3.htm
which at £120 is a steal (£155 at craftsman cues)

Of course you'll need a case, a leather one which you'll probably scratch and scuff to death in a year or two will cost you £150 or so a vinyle one about half that or an ali for about 40 but the best by a mile i reckon is the lewis and wilson tournament case. £35+ £9 p+p they go for from craftsman cues (dont think they have any left now they are not on their web site) or £40 inc postage from me as i have 4 to sell.
Sorry 3, my son helped himself to one yesterday and said this'll do for my birthday next week dad.

Cheeky git. i just bought him a cue supposedly for xmas and his birthday.
