Snooker Cues

I am hoping for some advice on purchasing a cue specifically for playing snooker. I know of a pool hall that has two 6x12 brand new snooker tables. They are beautiful and no one plays on them. Just looking to do something different than just nine ball. Are there any certain makers, lengths, or other criteria I should know? I will probably go to E-Bay for one, so shooting one first is not an option.
Thanks,
Dan

Well, ive been playing snooker for 6 years (stopped this summer), and i still got mine.I moved to pool, and as i dont play with my cue anymore, maybe u are interested in it.

it comes with a riley soft case for 1x1 cue. Ive got it from a snooker player in the UK. the brand is snooker master (i think, it has a big SM on the butt), but im really not a pro about brands etc. it is used, and has different bits and bites, but it played very well for the last 6 years, and served me very well. The joint fits perfect, the sound of the hit is greath, the shaft is still very smooth. not sure if ill sell it, because of the greath snooker moments i had with it, but if u want to swap it for a pool cue, or if u wish to just purchase it, let me know. It isnt in A++ condition. id rate the butt in B condition, and the shaft has alot of blue color from the chalk but it is in A condition. (i could clean up the chalk marks on the shaft, and sand the butt, but as im not a expert id leave that to the pro's.)

dont got more info for the moment, will have to weight it, mesure it etc, take some pictures, etc. if u are interested in it; I dont have any info now, as i never thought of selling it. The persons who sold me it, bought it for around 400€ euro's during a championship in the uk, witch is around 500$, and gave me it when my personal cue was stolen. But ive been playing with it for very long, and ill probably will sell it under 50% of his price and probably even lower as u can see alot of small scratches etc, but it is 100% perfect straight and plays EXCELLENT. The shaft is in very good condition, (alot better then the butt) its just sitting here, doing nothing. so might as well sell u it, for u to start. u can always buy a PRO snooker cue later or let someone make u one.

about your questions, i cant really help u. i know almost all the pro's have them custom made for them. and if u are gonna play competitions, i think thats the way u should go. if u are just starting, and not into pro level, i think a good 2d hand cue is the way to go.

if u want to swap for a pool cue, jump , break, ill be glad to accept that too.

No offence intended but if your friend paid 400 euros for a snooker master cue he got well and truly ripped off, A friend of mine paid £70 for one and I felt he got gipped.

I do not disagree with the posters statement about a second hand cue being a good purchase although you can purchase quality hand-made cues from £120 from http://www.mastercraft-cues.co.uk/10040/info.php?p=2&pno=0. Just a little disclaimer, I do not play with one of these cues, this is because I play with a second-hand Aeon cue that I would not trade (or sell) for the the world but if my own cue is ever damaged that is the company I would be contacting to build the replacement.

The other posters link to Glover cues is a link to one of the premier makers in the UK and if you wish to spend the extra I have heard nothing but good things about Tony Glover's work.

It really just boils down to how much you're willing to spend....John Parris is the best snooker cue maker IMO.

Paris, Paris, Paris

Option1: Paris

Option2: Paris

Option3: A dozen or so good British brands.

That may well be true although I am sure Wooldrige, Glover, Coutts etc would have something to say about that, the reason why I did not mention Parris is because John Parris allows other people to make his cues (also buy pre-made shafts from other companies) and then charges a premium price for a cue with the John Parris badge, also I have recently read a few bad reviews about custom orders going wrong.

I am just not a fan of paying over the odds for a cue ordered from a specific maker, bearing his badge which is made by someone else.

Zaxs custom cues

i got a snooker cue made, with a 9 ball shaft. Custom made by a cue maker that is close to Australias best.

ill try and inclde a picture.

both the snooker cue and the 9 ball shaft play excellent. He put a nylon ferrule on the cue which elimantes throw.

If you want some more details, P.M me.

Cheers,
dave

Merlinium, yes that could be right. he had the bad habbit of bragging about everything. BUT the cue played and still plays perfect, and i woudnt change it for another one. Hell for 70$ i would never sell it. plays to well for me. i did post it in the cue section to ask for info about the cue, but never got a response, and wasnt able to find the SM homepage with google. would u mind giving it to me, so i can ID this sucka :D

I noticed a few snooker master cues coming up on the UK Ebay a while back and they were going for next to nothing (now it seems to be Shender cues that are flooding the site), the cue Arthur plays with is a nice enough cue and has a built in extension feature but I just feel he could have got something better for the money he paid (his is a machine spliced cue).

The most important thing though with regards to a cue is how well a person plays with it and whilst that cue is not right for me, Arthur likes it.

I do not know their official website but here is a company that sells a range of their cues
http://www.rightoncue.co.uk/index.php?manufacturers_id=31
I have never used this comapny and cannot vouch for their reliability.

Tickets that cue looks quite smart, who is the maker?
I am not familiar with that particular badge and th only Australian cue maker I have heard much about is Andy Breem.

yeah i love the cue. plays well, and its a great feeling when someone good has a hit with it and there face changes into a "yeah that is good" expression.

the cue maker is a guy called zak, i met him through a coach. appaently he only makes cues when someone asks. I believe a few players in the English snooker comps have used his cues at one point in time but you would have to ask him that. (hendry i heard, and white). please dont quote me

over all, they all play well, and he can get some pretty amazing wood.

heres another pic, or two

Thanks to all that have replied and also to the PM's I received. Interestingly there is actually an American snooker association. The United States Snooker Association, I am presently checking out all the websites and suppliers suggested,
Thanks Again,
Dan

Hey Deep, If there is anyone in the US making snooker cues, I haven't found them yet. I will check out Martin's site.
Thanks,
Dan
