hope u or someone can answer this. a friend of mine was playing snooker and he made a shot. he shot the cherry and called his pocket. it kissed off another ball and went in. before the game started the only rule about the shots was call your pocket. the opponent says kisses dont count. we looked in the rule book and could not find anything concrete. is there a certain rule or is it different rules depending on the pool hall u r in. thx for any help. the game is over and we lost but just for heck of it. who was in the right. thx again.

Hi there,

The United States Snooker Association strictly adheres to the international snooker rules as directed by the World Professional Billiards & Snooker Association (WPBSA), and the International Billiards & Snooker Federation (IBSF) of which we are a member of. And these are the rules that our association promotes in the United States and enforces in our events.

You may be playing by your own agreed rules, however in international snooker rules there is no requirement at any time to call your pocket, and as long as the ball on is pocketed (in your case a red ball), even if it kisses any other balls on the table in the process, it is a legal shot - unless of course a foul is committed in the shot, whereby, for example, the cue-ball or a ball that is not on is pocketed in the same stroke.

Regards.

Alan.

There's a couple of ways to handle this situation. Usually, all players stipulate which rules they are going to follow, kisses or no kisses. I've played both ways. I usually play that all you have to do is make the ball in the pocket. It could go around five rails and kiss off three balls, but as long as it goes in the pocket you call, it's a good shot.

I've played guys to where we've played kisses, and then I barely shot the ball into the rail, and my opponent would try to call a foul on me because I hit the rail first. Nine times out of 10, if you're playing a guy like that, he's probably not worth screwing with anyway, if you get my drift. ;)
