Hellooo everyone, I was wondering what a good score for a typical game of snooker is. I played for the first time today and had a run of 62 points and was wonderin how good that is.

Eric

One pro or the other will generally get a 50+ break per game, so I would say a 62 is pretty good. Especially if it is your first time as well.

Cool, I got pretty excited. I couldn't miss there for a while, I ran all the way to the 7 at the end and missed a long pot down the rail.

Ahhhhhhhh Snooker... good times !!!

Hi Eric, well 1st im glad you posted your name !, was about to call you "Ball Racker ", :D
Anyway, I used to play snooker in Brazil, kinda a good long time ago, but im proud of it, cuz I think thats what made me a good player up to date; since as far as I can remenber; me (and some good players) reached close to 200, considering that we only would play with one red ball; I believe it was a darn good amount of points.
Honestly, I wish the game would be more divulgated/played around the country; but it's a game of finnesse, and it can take a long time to finish, so eventualy people end up opting for shorter games; nothing against it the good old "8 ball" and "9 Ball, but trust me if you put $100.00 on the line (per match), you will also think 2,3, or 4 times before you shoot !!!
PS: ( when somebody apply a good safety shot, and you can't have a clean hit on the object ball, that is were the term "SNOOKERED" comes from; hope you knew that !!!!)...

I've bought myself a set of balls about a year ago, numbered and @ 2.1/4 size (regulation I guess), I used to play in a 9 footer (my boss alowed me to marke it) , and about 9 out of 10 persons that I've played with, teaching the most simple and direct rules, have fallen in love with it !
 ?? ...Pink 6 ball; What ? Black 7 ball, were in the world have you found this ?? Ohh it's so funny !!!

Keep on praticing !!! it will makes pefect !!!
Sincerely, RICK...

Haha yea the colors freaked me out at first. I had a great time, I played some 8 and 9 ball on a 8 footer after and didn't miss many balls. I will continue to play it in the future, it was very fun. I knew what being "snookered" was from hearing someone else say the term but didn't know the true meaning until I was snookered on that big ol' table :D

Just ignore me if you are only joking here. If you're serious, though, could you explain this variation of the game? I'm only familiar with the traditional version, in which 147 is the maximum score (exluding any additional fouls, I guess). Thanks.

He said only one red, so it sounds like they were potting red, color, red, color, etc., re-spotting after every single pot. If you always spot the red, there is no maximum run.

so where do you spot the red exactly...

Yeah, I mean you've got the pink to contend with unless it's been moved off it's spot. Hmmm, doesn't sound like a very fun game if that's what they were playing, lol.

LOL, wherever you want!

Ohhh, now I get it, lol. Next question, how do you know when the game is over?? I guess when you get sick and freakin' tired of shooting red, black, red, black... :)

The rules I Knew !!!

Ok ,lol, you guys are geting me confused.. ; gona try to put here what I can remenber, and up to today; wich I call the "snooker bar rules"
The RED is the 1 right, and automaticaly the ball of the turn, but, into the game, you don't have to shoot in any specific order; any ball pocketed that is not the ball of the "turn" is respoted. After you pocket the RED(1), that ball stays and the "turn" is passed on to the YELLOW(2),and so on and so fort.
Every shot is called to the maximun exact tolerance, ex: If you call 3 on the side, and the CB hits the 6 and the 6 goes in, you only get 3 points and the 6 comes back, UNLESS you called the whole thing exactly like it happened !!!

You could make the BLACK(7) 100 times if you wish, thats a lot of points, and very hard to catch up w/ your oponent, keeping in mind that when you miss, and is not the ball of the turn, your'e giving up those points to your opponent, the best way to win, is to get a good headstart in points and then run the rack following the balls of the "turn"; FACE IT, I have 100 points and you have 80, and there's only the PINK(6), and the Black(7) on the table, you need to pocket the pink three times (adding to 98) , before you pocket the black to be able to win the game !!!

Ahhhhhh, what else ??? Oh there's a frebie, if you make the ball of the "turn", you have the also called "TURN" wich means you can risk shotting at any ball w/o the risk of loosing those points , in case you miss !:(

OK !!!!, spoting it the RED... not 100% sure (Its been a loooonnnnnng time),but close enough will do; what I do, is spoting about 2 balls lenght to the left of the black, or to the right, if your'e on the head (behind the half circle); The break, wich belongs to the looser, has to be done from anywere inside the "half moon", and it has to hit the "RED" ball 1st, and remember, always calling every and any aspect of you shot...
Thats roughly "it" guys !!! there's a few more details but were gona have to play for "IT"...

Darn !!! I got to learn how to deal w/ that CRAZY table... It's awesome...

Holy shit! I think I'm gonna need somebody to draw me a picture of this, lol.

Seriously Rick, I have never heard of anything like this. I mean, a couple of things you said sound like "snooker" as I know it, but some of your description, like how 3 pinks is worth 98, is making me wonder if somebody slipped something in my drink when I wasn't looking. Did you guys actually call this game "snooker", or did it have another name as well? Also, what size table was it played on? I would love to see the official rules for this game, whatever it is.

IBSF World Snooker Team Championships in San Jose, California.

Hi everyone.

There should be some high runs at snooker in San Jose, California, next month when we host the inaugural IBSF World Snooker Team Championships at the DoubleTree Hotel from August 16-26.

If you would like more information about the Championships, then please visit the official website: http://www.sanjosesnooker2006.us/

Best wishes.

Alan.

To get back to the original question:

An outright win in snooker is 74 points, and lots of games are won with far fewer points.

So 62 points on one visit to the table is pretty good.

Many reports of competitive snooker scores will also include the high run.
