Snooker Shootout and 6 Red

Snooker Shootout and 6 Reds are interesting to me in that it shows that even as popular as snooker is they are still struggling to stay relevant to spectators. I really love the technology aspects of snooker with Hawkeye ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawk-Eye ) and Snooker shootout. I suspect that 7 ball run ( http://7ballrun.com/ ) will be pretty popular with its use of technology if it gets enough eyeballs.

It's not really about trying to stay relevant. The 6 red events are a hold over from before Barry Hearn took over and, to be fair, were an attempt to increase interest at the time. The shootout acts as a good entry point for new fans due to the format and you see just about every player on tour.

Not to say snooker doesn't have its challenges with participation and such.

I've never liked that chicken-s^*t roll-up safety rule. We always played "get-a-rail" like pool. I like it.

Very bad way to describe it. There is nothing chicken sh1t about snooker players not making a rail after contact. They have as many balls as you and I do and play the game (whichever one it is) with the same passion.

The Coral Shoot Out is Barry Hearn’s way of bringing the Dart’s atmosphere to snooker. The product is sure to attract viewers that normally would not watch. The only problem with this tournament, it’s considered a ranking event.

HUH????????????? How hard is it to just roll-up on a ball? My high-run on a 5x10 snooker is 90 so i'm no champion but i can make a few. Everyone talks about how great snooker is yet they can play these safeties AND s*^t balls in. Whatever.

Snooker is actually great.
They don't dump games to cut up backers or sponsors, and if they do and get caught, they get banned for life
They call fouls on themselves when no one (not eve ref)sees it
They don't shark and do all manner of things to distract their opponents
They are courteous and good sports

I could go on, but you get the picture. Too bad the pool scene around the US is not a lot more like snooker. That's why it will stay where it is for the next 100 years.

When you run 90 on a 6x12 get back to me. Playing on a 5x10 vs 6x12 is like comparing a bar box to a 9 footer.
