Bad advice. Better advice is to test each piece of advice to see if it's true no matter where you get it. Books, instructors and champions can all be wrong and sometimes are.

I said be careful, not don't ever take advice from them. There are many players who are C or B level players who act like experts but don't actually know what they are doing.

thats true to an extent but rarely seen any real hot girls with pool players, I have with the pro's but not with the guys comming into the professional ranks. When your going to the pool room 6 nights of the week most good looking girls wont tollarate that. the fatties will.

Agreed 100%. But I said girls, not girl. There are lots of girls and most of them need not know of my addiction. By the time she figures out that I've been ditching her to go play pool, I'm well on my way to pursuing another one. This brings me to another point. Girls between the ages of 17 and 22 are complete *****es (pardon my french) IMO. Or at least they are around here. Of all the girls that I've "dated" not one of them was normal. They all seemed normal for the first couple days, but then they changed. I've been out with a wide variety of them too. Everything from the scholars to the tweakers, to the sorority girls and the sluts. I even dated a fellow gambler. They're all the same and I hated them all. By now I've pretty much given up. I hate the drama and the attitudes. I can only hope that as they get older they start to figure things out, primarily, what exactly it is that they want. I just don't understand it, she wants an asshole, so I become an asshole. Then she complains that I don't treat her well enough. MAKE UP YOUR MIND PLEASE!!! Alright, I'm done with my little tirade.

One of the old dudes around here has shown me a lot. The guy is terrible (I think he's half blind) but he's been playing forever and he's a goldmine of information. He's taught me so much. Without this guy, I wouldn't know half the strategy that I do. He's just one of those guys that knows everything and can't perform.

Perhaps he was a great player back in the day.

But again I never meant to say that anyone less than an A player doesn't know what they are talking about, rather that you have to becareful about learning from someone who is just a lesson or two ahead of you. I apologize if I came across in any different manner.

I know the first step is to practice, which I do - everyday, but it seems like their is something else I'm missing.

I've read a few pool books, nothing amazing there..

I've noticed their are a lot of pool schools, but they appeared expensive and ineffective - what is everyone else's opinion?

I've noticed a few online pool schools, but haven't looked into them really...

My question is - if I want to be a great pool player - and I mean great, where should I go from here? I have two nice cues and a table so I'm set there, I just need to know where I should go to learn more about the game?

Alex, I can probably give you better advice if I know your level of play. What is it? What is your high run in Straight pool? How many balls can you run in 9 ball? How many racks have you run conseuctively playing 8 ball? Same question for 9 ball..... How many people can you consistently beat at your local pool hall? What books did you learn the most from?

If you provide answers to some of these questions, you will get a better answer IMHO.
