I don't think you understand the concept of seeding

What you are referring to was their practice of automatically putting the top 16 in the final 32 of a 128 person tournament... That is far from seeding

Seeding would be building the brackets so that the top 16 do not play each other in the first round of a 128 person tournament

Huge difference.
 
If there is an open draw to determine the first round matches, you have the potential for the big guns clashing early in the competition.
This makes the early rounds more attractive to television producers, and to people in the stands.

The corollary is that lower ranked players have a chance to make some money because they may have a relatively easier time to get to the later stages of the tournament.

One of the oddities of snooker seeding is that there are players in the top levels that have rarely played each other.

This season IIRC only two players have won 2 tournaments. There has been a tournament just about every week and the level of play on average has been raised.
 
I never agreed with seeding in tournaments. I pay my money the same as everyone else and take my chances. If your the best player that tournament you will win, if not why do you deserve an advantage over anyone else. If you want something for free then ask Obama for a free phone.
 
Seeding in a pro only tournament, with an established tour and ranking system to determine said seedings.....sure.

Tournaments that are open to anyone, and rely on "anyone's" entry fees for the prize pool, no way. Totally unfair.
 
It wont be long...

unitl the best pro players in this country ruin what little is left in professional pool.Every move they make reduces their opportunities. What will they do when they alienate themselves from every last tournament promoter and sanctionong body? Bonus ball...what a joke. To think they are afraid to play unless they have the nuts, they should be ashamed.

So, after paying your hard earned money to enter an "open" tournament...likey including gas, food and lodging...you actually WANT to risk facing top pros and possibly get knocked out after two matches...and probably playing in a half dozen RACKS???

I think most run of the mill "open" players...like DCC and others do NOT want that to happen and would think it "unfair" if it did.

I...on the other hand...being somewhat of a nonconformist, would LOVE to get matched up with a champion...or TWO. Why? Because those MEMORIES would be with me for the rest of my life.

I got matched up with Hillbilly at one DCC (after hanging in for several matches) and got FIVE racks on him and two "nice shots" from him. I was THRILLED!!!

But I see nothing fundamentally unfair about seeding in "opens" and believe that if there is ANYTHING unfair (to most players involved) it would be NOT seeding the top players.

Don't know about the validity of racist accusations...but I didn't know Obama was giving out free phones.

Do you have his contact info? I'd like to ask for one!!!!

Is anyone on the GOP side giving anything away? I guess not raising taxes on billionaires is a gift to them...but I don't quite qualify.

I realize that I might not understand everything, but as I see it, with NO seeding, that means that the top players can draw each other, along with everyone else. So in your scenario, I have less of a chance drawing a top player, as opposed to the top players being seeded, and protected from drawing the other seeded players in the early rounds.

I do agree with you that I would love to draw one of the big guns, since i have no prayer of going far in such a tournament. I would love to be able to say "I drew SVB" or something like that, and the experience would be awesome.

What isnt fair is for the serious playing non-pro to have more of a chance to draw the top players, and give those top players essentially a free ride in the early rounds. Again, in the types of tourneys that everyone pays the same entry, and those fees go towards the prize fund.
