So what difference is there between balls? Aramith vs others

So I guess what is the difference in how they play? I did a quick Google and it said something like lower-quality balls you would have to replace more often. How often should you replace pool balls? Anyone have any resources on where I can learn more about different kinds of pool balls? I mean in my beginner mindset they're all the same.

are all cars the same?
some last longer /some ride better/etc
its a similar concept
just sayin

I finally played with a set of those aramith blacks. They are really nice. They’re actually kinda pretty in real life, and at least for 9 ball they aren’t too bad since you only have one striped.

The backwards colored 4/5 almost got me a few times, and it did get the guy I was playing- who owns the room and balls and has used them plenty. He played nice position on that purple 5 only to realize he now had an unenviable bank on the 4 🤨

Life is a struggle for those of us who remember the true color of the 5B 🥺

You want to stay away from cheap polyester resin balls and opt for phenolic resin balls. Any quality phenolic ball offered by Saluc (Aramith, Brunswick Centennial, Predator Arcos II), Cyclop, Dynaspheres or Cosmos will play great and last for years.

Makes 100% sense, there is standardized weight & size for Pool Balls.

Most brand hit the mark. Years ago our recreation center bought 25 or 30 replacement sets.

From a reputable supply house, less then $25.00/set Chinese made.

No one knew the difference, because they look like the pricy “A” brand.

There is TRULY a difference between top quality balls, such as are manufactured by Aramith, and all others. Another SIGNIFICANT difference lies between Aramith balls of many years ago, and today. The tolerances and formulations have improved quite a bit over the years. Modern, top line, Aramith balls play better and more consistently than any other set.

So define “play better”?

Just because a Pro Pool player uses a vetting Cue.

By choice, or because someone gave, or paid 💰💰💰💰 the player to use product?

Fair point. "Better" is very subjective. A better description may be "more consistently". I own 17 or so sets. I have 3 sets less than 5 years old. Arcos II, Aramith Black, and Super Pro. These 3 play the most consistently. I can not really tell any difference from set to set. My newer (last 5 years) Aramith sets make a tight rack more easily. When shooting, they honestly react more consistently to spin, and cuts (in my opinion and experience). They all spread comparably and consistently on the break. The older sets play the same on shots that are straight to about 15 degrees of cut. I find I have to adjust sharper cuts when playing my older sets. They throw more. Maybe because the surfaces are less consistent or just worn over time? Not sure why, but they are different. The older sets "feel" softer to me. By that I mean they seem to play more slowly. They get less spread from a comparable break. This is my experience playing them all regularly. I enjoy all of my sets, but I definitely have to adjust my game a little for my older Aramith, and other sets. I have a couple of quite old sets that are not phenolic and they play much more slowly. As for Vigma, I have never weighed my 3 sets, buy they actually (in my opinion) play a little lighter and thus faster. I confess all of this is only my opinion, but I think if you played them back to back as I have many times, you would see there is a significant difference.
